This past Monday (Feb. 18), people heading to The Sun’s
website at www.thesunnews.net
noticed a change to the site, most notably that it is now a paid service.
Previously only a select few of the items in the paper version of The Sun
were available when the site was free.
Now, with a paid subscription, not only will subscribers still receive the print version of the newspaper, they will be able to view every story, see all the photos (many in color instead of the printed black and white), coming events, sports and all the other editorial content inside the paper.
Additionally, there will be other items uploaded on the site daily, including breaking news stories.
Plus older editions of The Sun
, dating back to 2009, will be available to the viewer.
Current subscribers to The Sun
should have received their user name and password for their free online account. To activate the account, visit The Sun website, choose “log in” found in the upper right-hand corner of the screen. Then follow the instructions for “Already have a subscription.” This online service is in addition to receiving a physical newspaper every week.
New subscribers and those renewing their subscriptions can choose the paper to be home-delivered, which includes access to the online subscription or they can choose the online subscription only.
Subscription costs are set to increase for The Sun
, on Friday, March 1. This is the first subscription increase since 2008 and is based on increased costs in printing and mailing the newspaper. Rates will increase by $4 across the board, with regular subscription at $35 and out of state $42; seniors (62 and older) will be $32, with out of state $39. Military subscriptions will be $32.
Online only subscriptions will be $32 per year.
For those searching out bargains, keep an eye out in April, as the newspaper will be running a subscribers appreciation promotion and The Sun
will also be holding its annual Black Friday Subscription Blowout Sale on Nov. 29.
