Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School announces Hillery honorees

SOUTH BUFFALO - Over half a century ago, the Judge John D. Hillery Memorial Scholarship Foundation was conceived and dedicated to the memory of a great humanitarian and true friend of Bishop Timon - St. Jude High School.

The tradition will be continued at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 24 at Lucarelli’s Banquet Center as friends, family, co-workers and fellow alumni gather to honor William Conroy, ‘78; Sister Peggy Gorman, RSM; Barbara Hart; Gene Overdorf, ‘71; and Dr. Peter Purcell, ‘74. All five have distinguished themselves as persons exemplifying the Franciscan spirit of caring and serving in their communities.

After cocktails and dinner, Thomas Sullivan, principal of Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School, will introduce each recipient, noting the special gifts that each has brought to the lives of so many others. This will be followed by the presentation of the St. Francis Award, a symbol of their place among all the past inductees.

During a reception recently held at the school to introduce this year’s nominees, Sullivan mentioned the impact that the Hillery Foundation has had on the school as a “partner in providing the opportunity for so many young men to join the Timon community through its unwavering financial support all these years - a very real Franciscan legacy”.

The Hillery Board of Directors and the entire Timon community invites you to join in the celebration. For more information or to purchase tickets, call Kevin McLaughlin, 826-3610 ext. 251.
