Raising money for the Mike’s Way Foundation

LAKE SHORE — For the second year in a row, Lake Shore Savings Bank has dedicated a month to raising money for the Mikey’s Way Foundation. This foundation was established by Michael Friedman, who died of cancer at age 19. His stated mission was to enrich the lives of children suffering from cancer and other life-threatening illnesses, by providing electronics that reduce treatment boredom and reconnect them to their friends and family members.

Through a family connection at the bank’s Lakewood office, Lake Shore Savings has recently presented a check for $26,336 to the Mikey’s Way Foundation.

Assistant Manager Amy Harding and her sister, Jennifer Overfield, who works for Aeropostale®, spread the organization’s message throughout Aeropostale’s Eastern Region. These efforts raised more than $5,000, which enabled Overfield and her staff members to deliver electronics to children at Roswell Park Cancer Institute on Nov. 13, 2013.

Daniel Reininga, the president and CEO of Lake Shore Savings Bank, said, “As a board member of the Mikey’s Way Foundation, it’s truly awe-inspiring to see how charitable our local communities can be. I have to thank all of our employees, board of directors and our customers for continuing to help support this wonderful organization.”
