BRANT — The town of Brant will honor the late longtime town justice Peter Gugino by officially designating Saturday, March 22 as Peter F. Gugino Day. The town hall courtroom will also officially be dedicated in Gugino’s memory.
The Brant Town Board made both dedications official in a proclamation noting Gugino’s dedicated service.
“The Brant Town Board proclaims the dedication and naming of this court room for all to remember Peter F. Gugino’s unselfish time spent for our community,” the proclamation read. “So be it proclaimed, by order of the Brant Town Board, that, on Saturday, March 22, 2014, that this court room shall forever be called the Peter F. Gugino Memorial Court Room in his honor, for his undying dedication to us.”
All town residents were asked to honor March 22 as Peter F. Gugino Day, “for his dedication to our community.”
Gugino served as town justice for 22 years. He initially stepped into this capacity, after being appointed for four months in 1969, upon the death of then-Justice Clarence Beuzenburg. He was then elected, served the community from 1970 – 1977, was appointed in 1979 and won the election in 2002. He died Aug. 10.
“Peter F. Gugino was a lifelong resident and successful farmer who was able to find the time to serve on countless committees and organizations,” the board said, in its proclamation. “For 22 years, Peter dedicated his life to our community and was a tireless servant for the people of the town of Brant. He served his community with his dedication and compassion for fairness and honesty.”
Board members said that Gugino helped to shape the current courtroom; they said that the town will be forever thankful for his years of work and dedication to Brant.
“Peter was responsible for designing this courtroom and, with great honor and humility, the Brant Town Board will forever be thankful for his service.”
The official courtroom dedication ceremony will take place at 6 p.m. on Peter F. Gugino Day, Saturday, March 22. Joe Three Star will provide food and refreshments in the town hall cafeteria, during the event.
