Gobble for Groceries fun run/walk raised food for community members

HAVING FUN, DESPITE THE COLD — More than 225 runners and walkers participated in the Gobble for Groceries event held in Springville on Nov. 22.
SPRINGVILLE — More than 225 participants turned out for the third annual Gobble for Groceries fun run/walk, a benefit to fill the shelves of Springville’s Community Kitchen, on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 22.

While most of the attendees were from the Springville area, the event saw many visitors, from as far away as Oklahoma.

To participate in the 3.6-mile run and 2-mile walk, attendees were asked to donate a bag of non-perishable groceries to the community kitchen. Participants, varying in age from 5 to older than 70 years, pounded the pavement, to raise money for local families.

Funding was raised, during the event, via sales of 2012 Gobble for Groceries T-shirts, printed and donated by Steve Kreitzbender, owner of Pit Stop Pizza and Advantage Signs & Apparel Printing and cash donations.

Community members Faith and Brandi Burgard, Jolene Hawkins and more volunteered their time, to assist with the event.

The overall winner of the 3.6-mile run was Adam Fisher.

Amy Dickinson was the first woman to cross the finish line. Both winners are residents of the Springville area.

Preparations have already begun on next year’s event, which will be held again on Thanksgiving Day, at the Springville Trading Post.

Organizations or businesses wishing to get involved with this community event may contact the Trading Post at 592-4455.
