Ironworkers' Hall to host fundraiser for Bily Crehan

SOUTH BUFFALO - The Ironworkers’ Hall at 196 Orchard Park Rd will host a fundraiser in memory of William “Billy” Crehan on Sun. Oct. 6 from 1-6 pm.

A native South Buffalonian, Bishop Timon Graduate and Timon Sports Hall of Famer, husband and father, Crehan passed away this past spring at the early age of 33. Billy Crehan was one of the first Bishop Timon Lacrosse players, bringing the new team from a shabby one win season its first year in existence to becoming undefeated in Crehan’s senior year of 1998. Crehan went on to continue to play Lacrosse in college and Bishop Timon continued the early winning tradition, maintaining its status as one of the top Lacrosse teams in the area.

Billy was loved by masses in the South Buffalo area. As a Gene McCarthy descendent, Crehan worked at McCarthy’s from an early age, paying homage to his First Ward roots and making friends of all ages.

“He was just a great kid with an infectious personality,” stated Jack Reid, a committeeman for the event, whose son Marty was a lifelong friend of Crehan, “Everybody just loved him. Billy was one of those people you just wanted to be around.”

Crehan graduated in 2002, with a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Alfred University, before going into the sales industry. His charming smile, warm personality, and disciplined work ethic made him a natural for the field. To honor the memory of such a remarkable young man, friends have planned the upcoming Oct. 6 fundraising event in Billy Crehan’s honor and memory.

The Stone Bridge Band will be playing inside the Ironworker’s Hall. The event will be held inside the hall and in the grove area, and will include a Chinese auction, food and refreshments.

“The outpouring of the community has been unbelievable,” said Reid, “Everyone is volunteering to work, donating baskets, and doing whatever they can. We expect it to be a spectacular event.”

Tickets are $25 and can be purchased by contacting Erik Bohen at 713-5654, Larry Connors at 432-3251, Jack Reid at 432-5039, Jeff Conrad at 983-1735 or purchased at the door.

Proceeds from the event will be used for the educational fund of Billy’s son, Timothy Joseph Crehan.
