Kick the habit: Magnum Vapor Club offers cigarette alternative

[Photo3]Many former smokers have pointed to the electronic cigarette as the product that finally helped them quit, and new business owner Alissa Evans of Hamburg said that her goal is to encourage more and more individuals to put down the tarry cigarette for a more lung-healthy alternative.

Evans, with help from her sister-in-law and mother-in-law, opened Magnum Vapor Club at 81 Main St. in Hamburg on Sept. 1. This, her first retail business, provides customers with an alternative to smoking cigarettes.

“I wanted to open a store that offered not only high-quality e-cigarettes and liquid, but also great customer service,” Evans said.

E-cigarettes vaporize a liquid that contains vegetable glycerin and propylene glycol, mixed with concentrated flavors and optional nicotine. These cigarettes typically consist of a tank or a cartridge to hold the liquid, an atomizer or cartomizer to vaporize it, a heating coil and a battery.

Evans obtains her liquid from a manufacturing facility in Boise, Idaho, which she said guarantees quality control, consistency in the flavor and a sanitary laboratory environment. She said that her customers are provided with the best quality liquid available.

The Kanger hardware comes directly from the same manufacturer, so all products from the Magnum Vapor Club are guaranteed to work together.

Evans said that she takes the time to explain the product to each customer who walks through the door. “I don’t want the customer to be overwhelmed,” she said. “We cater to those who are just starting out.”

The store stocks the e-cigarettes and many vapor flavors, including some with nicotine and some without. Unlike the traditional “analog cigarettes,” e-cigarettes do not contain tar or other carcinogens.

“The e-cigarettes benefit not only the smoker, but the non-smoker,” Evans said, pointing out that this option does not leave behind a lingering smoke smell on the user’s breath, clothing or environment. “There is no smoke; no after-smell or that staleness,” she said. “It dissipates very quickly. You don’t even have to go outside.”

HEALTHIER ALTERNATIVE — The Hamburg business offers many vapor flavors for customers to choose from.
Some of the liquids are flavored to taste like tobacco; other options include a variety of dessert, fruit and menthol flavors. Customers to the Magnum Vapor Club may sample the options available, before making their purchases.

Current smokers may start using liquids with a high percentage of nicotine and then wean themselves down to a liquid with a lower level, or none of the drug at all. “The level you start at is based on what you are smoking at the time,” Evans explained.

For the brand-new e-cigarette user, the store offers starter kits that include two full units, as well as a free bottle of fluid. All of the versions sold at Magnum Vapor Club have what Evans described as a high-quality eVod tank with a bottom coil.

The store also offers many liquid options for the new or existing user and upgrades for the e-cigarettes, including tanks that hold more of the vapor. “I will be expanding the product as I go along,” Evans said.

A punch card system allows customers to purchase five bottles of the high-caliber liquid and obtain one for free.

“This is a real tool to helping customers become nicotine-free,” Evans said.

According to the business owner, many individuals have reported that this option helped them to finally quit smoking. While not all of the side effects are known, many studies are currently being done by several entities, including Roswell Park.

Evans said that she would like to work with area doctors and hospitals, to provide e-cigarette discounts to patients that may need to quit, for health reasons. “I want to reach out to people who might not be able to otherwise quit,” she said. “I want to help people turn around their health.”

The business owner said that she wants to help people kick the habit, once and for all, and is planning a “wall of fame” for customers who have quit smoking.

Evans said that her future plans include possibly opening a second location and then offering franchises. “I want to set a standard in the industry for high-quality products and customer service,” she said.

Magnum Vapor Club is open from 11 a.m. – 7 p.m. on Monday – Thursday and 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. on Friday and Saturday. For more information, call 449-8031 or check out the business on Facebook and Twitter. Look for a website soon.
