HAVE A CUP OF CHEER — Kick off 2014 with the town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation, Hamburg Gaming and Buffalo Raceway at The Fairgrounds, during the upcoming New Year’s Eve party.
HAMBURG — ‘Tis the season to be festive. Break out those dancing shoes and champagne glasses and say goodbye to 2013 with a flourish.
The Fairgrounds Event Center in Hamburg will be the scene of a semi-formal ball, sponsored by Hamburg Gaming/Buffalo Raceway. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the town of Hamburg Recreation Department.
The first such local New Year’s Eve party was held in December 2011, to commemorate the beginning of the town of Hamburg’s bicentennial year. According to Director of Recreation Martin Denecke, attendees enjoyed the event so much, they asked that it be held again.
This year, the town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation was brought on board. According to Denecke, Hamburg Gaming at The Fairgrounds makes it a goal to donate a portion of the event’s proceeds to a local organization.
“I said that we’d love the opportunity and we just went from there,” Denecke said.
Tickets to the New Year’s Eve party, scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31, will include free valet parking, a three-hour open bar and a gourmet meal at a continuously replenished buffet.
The open bar will be followed by a cash bar.
Retro band Disco Duck will perform live, from 9 p.m. – 1 a.m. “This is a very popular local band based in Western New York,” Denecke said, pointing out that Disco Duck plays all genres of music, in addition to tunes from the disco age.
Attendees may ring in the new year with a complimentary champagne toast at midnight, but the fun won’t stop there.
Breakfast will be served at the midway buffet after midnight, and guests will receive vouchers for free play at Hamburg Gaming. They may also visit the casino’s bar and listen to the music of disc jockey Q Phunk.
Denecke said that organizers are anticipating a turnout of approximately 200 individuals, comparable to past years, but added that, since tickets are also being sold by the Hamburg Casino, the number may be higher.
“I think it sounds like it will be a fun-filled night with lots to do,” he said. “There will be great food and time spent with good friends.”
Tickets may be purchased at the recreation office, located at 4540 Southwestern Blvd. in Hamburg, or at the cashier’s window at Hamburg Gaming. They will also be sold at the door.
Attendees will receive a discount, when reserving tables of eight or 10. These reservations may be made through business hours on Dec. 30.
Party-goers must be 18 to attend; those younger than 21 will be restricted to consuming non-alcoholic beverages.
“The town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation is extremely grateful to be benefitting from this event,” said Brian Bogner Esq., the chair of the town of Hamburg Recreation Foundation. “We hope that everyone will come out to enjoy a great event and support a great organization.”
A portion of the proceeds will go to the recreation foundation, which will utilize the money to develop its master plan and fund some of the projects outlined in that strategy.
“The money will go into the general fund of the recreation foundation and the board will determine where it goes, based on need,” Denecke said.
“We hope to make this an ongoing event and hold other events, to develop new facilities or enhance old ones,” he added.
The town’s recreation department and youth bureau have both relocated to the town of Hamburg Senior Community Center, located at 4540 Southwestern Blvd. The adult day care center and senior services will both make the move some time next year.
