Posh is the newest retail shop on Hamburg's Main Street

Amy Giovino and Jeff Giovino show off some of the items for sale in the new shop “Posh,” at 36 Main St., in the Village of Hamburg.
Amy Giovino loves shopping for fashion accessories at bargain prices.

She decided to take that interest and turn it into a retail venture, creating Posh, 36 Main St., in the Village of Hamburg, which opened Nov. 23.

“Jeff (Giovino) and I were just sitting around and the idea just kind of happened,” she said.

They decided to close off a section in the front of the Jaxson’s Lounge (part of Coyote Cafe), to give Amy a place to set up shop.

A full-time kindergarten teacher at Fruit Belt Community Charter School on Michigan Avenue in Buffalo, this is Amy’s first venture into major retailing.

“For several years I used to hold jewelry parties ‘Chicks’N’ Jewels’ and that was a lot of fun,” she said.

“I’m using the same supplier I used for my parties to sell in the store. I only get one or maybe two of an item, so that you won’t see the item you purchased everywhere you go and it is important to keep the prices reasonable,” Amy said.

During the weekdays, Jeff helps keep an eye on the store, while overseeing the restaurant.

“It is a bit of a challenge,” Jeff said. “I’m finding that this is a whole other side of the business world that I really have not been involved with before.

“We’ve had customers come over from events in the restaurant who just go wild over the items Amy has for sale. This has been a huge hit,” Jeff said.

Along with a wide variety of jewelry (pins, earrings, rings, bracelets, necklaces and necklace sets) there are leggings, T-shirts, hats, scarves, knit headbands, purses, sunglasses and backpacks for children, just to name a few of the stores merchandise.

“There are trendy fashion items, but I’m not trying to target any particular group,” Amy said.

“Because I don’t get a lot of one product, I am constantly ordering new items and restocking the shelves.”

According to Amy, they are pretty much getting new shipments daily. She also stresses that since the shop is small, she can give each customer her personal attention and help them pick out that perfect accent piece to finish off an outfit.

“We have items from dress to casual. I try to get a more unique-looking product at reasonable prices. Who wants to pay $50 for a pin, when you can get the same style for $7?

“Fashion should be fun and affordable,” Amy said. “That is my goal and I think we really have quality items at great prices.”

Posh is open Tuesday through Friday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 8 p.m. They accept all major credit cards.
