EVANS — During the Evans Democratic Club’s January meeting, it was announced that Robert Catalino will be honored with the Evans-Brant Chamber of Commerce's 2013 Lifetime Achievement Award.

Town Clerk Lynn Krajacic is working on the town and county tax bills. She recently presided over the installation of officers at the Lake Erie Beach Fire Hall. Catalino referred a county board of elections issue to Krajacic; she reported that she is working with the board to see about a grant for ensuring full accessibility for Evans’ election districts.

Angola Mayor Howard Frawley addressed the recent efforts to maintain the Lake Shore Hospital; Federal Emergency Management Agency money will help keep the doors open. Frawley will attend a meeting of the New York Conference of Mayors in Albany next month and report back about those proceedings. He currently serves on the executive board of the NYCOM and is also looking into what it would take to add another water line for the village.

In other local issues, the Evans Historical Society held its installation dinner on Jan. 27 at the First Church of Evans. The Boys & Girls Club held a quizmaster event featuring Dennis George at the Highland Fire Hall on Jan. 7.

Catalino reminded the club that this election year will include local town of Evans committee member races.

Other races include New York state governor; New York State Senate and Assembly, United States House of Representatives and five New York state court races. The town of Evans is located in the 27th Congressional district, the 60th state Senate district and the 147th Assembly district. Candidates for state supreme court will be running in an eight-county district.
