The Kenan Center is currently accepting registrations for its winter classes in ballroom dancing for adults, and a children and parent music program.
“Children and Music Together with Mary Dunn,” is a 10-week program geared to ages three months to five years and is modeled on similar national programs that use music as a tool for early learning development.
All classes incorporate American Sign Language and no additional materials are required.
Mary Dunn is an early childhood and elementary school teacher who has been offering a music-based program for preschoolers at the Kenan Center for 15 years.
Classes offered will be: Wonderfully New for ages 3 to 17 months at 5:15 p.m. on Mondays and 10:30 a.m. on Wednesdays; The World Around Me for ages 18 months to 3 years at 6:15 p.m. on Mondays, 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 p.m. Tuesdays and 9:30 a.m. Wednesdays; and “new” Imagination for ages 3 ˝ to 5 years on Mondays at 4:15 p.m.
The Imagination class will now include parents as participants. All classes are 45 minutes long except for Imagination, which is an hour long class.
Classes start the week of March 4. The cost is $95 for members; $105 for non-members. Registration deadline is March 1.
For those who like to move to the music, the Kenan Center will once again offer a 10-week Ballroom Dancing class taught by veteran instructor, Jackie George.
The beginning class introduces students to the basic American Ballroom styles including the foxtrot, waltz, and swing as well as the more exotic Latin styles like tango and cha cha.
An intermediate class gives students the opportunity to increase their skills. Winter classes start Feb. 6, with the beginners class at 7 p.m. and intermediate at 8 p.m. Cost is $55 for members; $75 for non-members. Registrations will be accepted through the first class day.
To register, call 433-2617 or visit the Kenan Center Business Office, 433 Locust St. from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday.
