Have the flu? So does everybody else.

Tis the season for runny noses, sore throats, aches, and pains because the jolly old flu virus has come out to play.

“It’s just that time of the year for the flu,” said Mary Sharp, WNY Immediate Care Site Administrator. “Unfortunately everyone is shopping around the holiday time so that is usually when it happens.”

Which is why so many folks in the community are claiming that they are sick. Sharp said she starting seeing a swarm of people visiting the WNY Immediate Care, 5014 Transit Road around Dec. 20. She sites the problem to stress from the holidays, traveling, and more frequent germs.

“What we’re finding out is a lot of people didn’t get their flu shot. People need to make sure that they are washing their hands properly and when they are coughing and sneezing to do it in a tissue. Also, wipe things off, wipe things down, you can’t be too clean at this time because there are so many people that are sick you don’t know,” said Sharp.

Sharp also said that WNY Immediate Care does have a prescription for the flu called Theraflu but it has to be caught early enough for it to work. The symptoms cannot be there for more than three days and if it has, the body will have to fight the infection on its own.

“One of the best things you can do for any viral infection is drink lots of fluids and keep yourself as healthy as you can, get enough sleep, all that kind of stuff,” she said.

WNY Immediate Care is open 9 a.m. to 10 pm. Monday thru Friday and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. For more information call 684-2273.
