Police looking for owner of injured dog

On Friday, May 10, Evans Dog Control Officer Mike Franey received a call that a dog was stranded in the cliff area of Oak Grove.

Following a great deal of leg work and hiking, Franey was able to locate the dog stranded on a ledge, fully surrounded by water.

Lt. William Sills came to the site and then called Lake Erie Beach Fire Company for assistance. Lake Erie Beach Fire Chief Mike Emholf put the boat rescue team into action, who rescued the dog from the ledge.

It was found the male Australian Shepherd-type dog was wearing a collar but no tags and had injured his right front paw.

The dog was transported to the Eden Veterinarian Clinic, was treated and held for observation overnight before being turned over to the Erie County SPCA.

Town of Evans Police are asking anyone with any information about this animal to call 549-3600. If the owner is not found by Monday, May 20, the dog will go up for adoption, police said.
