The Sun election 2013 coverage: Eden

Mary Lou Pew
Eden Town Board

Incumbent Eden Councilmember Mary Lou (nee Cammarano) Pew, who also serves as the town’s deputy supervisor, is seeking reelection for a fifth term on the Eden Town Board. She has been endorsed by the Democratic, Conservative and Working Family parties.

Pew said that she is excited about continuing her service to the residents of Eden. “Solving problems for constituents is the most satisfying aspect of my job,” she said. “No issue is too large or too small for me to address, and I’m going to run on my track record of success.”

Issues such as taxes, poor water quality, drainage problems and the processing of local building permits are some of the areas Pew and her colleagues on the town board have worked to resolve for residents.

Among her accomplishments is the newly created “stream-line process” for residents to obtain building permits and implementation of the code review committee to review outdated legislation. She has also been responsible for securing a number of grants, including a Geographical Information System and COPS grants and a $40,000 grant that supports economic development projects, disaster mitigations and emergency equipment for the Eden town emergency departments.

Pew also created the town of Eden’s website and online forms, which she said resulted in Eden’s becoming an interactive, electronically accessible municipality. She was the recipient of the Green Certification Award for renewable energy.

A supporter of the agriculture community and a member of the Erie County Farm Bureau, Pew, along with her colleagues on the town board, recently passed a resolution seeking funding to build a new regional farm museum, visitor and exhibition building in Eden. “The Southtowns Community Enhancement Coalition has indicated its willingness to operate the visitor center as part of its plan to develop an agriculture trail in the Southtowns, as a place to visit by tourists in our area and we’re very excited about this proposal,” Pew said.

“I am proud of the accomplishments that I have made to date, with help from constituents, but recognize there is still a lot of work to be done and I hope that the residents continue to give me the opportunity to accomplish more by voting for me on Tuesday, Nov. 5.”
