Free and reduced meals program at local school districts

HAMBURG — The North Collins Central School District has announced its free and reduced price meal policy for North Collins Central School-area school children.

In addition, free and reduced price meal policies have been announced for Hamburg, Blasdell, Woodlawn and Lakeview-area school children.

Applications are available at the principal’s office in each school and on the Frontier website. Applications may be submitted any time during the school year to Food Service Director Susan Birmingham at Frontier. They may be submitted to Crystal Cocca, 2045 School St. in North Collins, at any time, during the school year. Cocca may be reached at 337-0101 ext. 308. Hamburg parents may contact Linda Muldoon at 360 Division St. in Hamburg or any other district school office or cafeteria. Call 646-3269 for more information.

Information provided on applications will be confidential and be used for determining eligibility. Names and eligible status of participants may also be used for the allocation of funds to federal education programs. Eligibility information may also be released to programs authorized under the National School Lunch Act or the Child Nutrition Act. The release of information to any program or entity not specifically authorized by the NSLA will require a written consent statement from the parent or guardian.

The school districts may, at any time during the school year, verify the information on the application. If a parent does not give the schools this information, the child or children will no longer be able to receive free or reduced price meals.

Foster children may also be eligible for these benefits. A separate application for a foster child is no longer necessary. Foster children may be listed on the family application, which must contain the foster child’s name and personal use income.

Under the provisions of the policy, the designated official will review applications and determine eligibility. If a parent is dissatisfied with the ruling of the designated official, he/she may make a request either orally or in writing for a hearing to appeal the decision.

At Frontier, School Business Manager Richard Calipari, whose address is 5120 Orchard Ave. in Hamburg, has been designated as the hearing official. The North Collins hearing office is Superintendent Benjamin Halsey at 2045 School St. in North Collins. He can be reached at 337-0101 ext. 301. In Hamburg, contact Colleen Kaney at 5305 Abbott Road or 646-3210.
