Gov. Andrew Cuomo to be in Hamburg Thursday

New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo will be in Hamburg on Thursday, Nov. 21. Details of his visit have not yet been released, but he will be joined by officials of Ford and the United Auto Workers at the Ford Stamping Plant in Woodlawn at 11:30 a.m.

The parties will be making an announcement regarding Ford’s expansion of the plant. A report from that company indicated that the Hamburg plant will receive an influx of $100 million to expand its operation to accommodate increased demand for parts from across the United States-Canada border. In addition to Ford’s investment in the plant, the company reported that “as many as 300 new jobs” could be added, beginning as soon as this winter.

The Sun was been told Patrick Radtke, president of Local 897, that those numbers may be higher than previously speculated. He said that, while he is not authorized to discuss the specifics of the investment or the number of new jobs to be created, “the numbers are understated.”

The expansion is expected to meet Ford’s greater demand for parts from its Oakville, Ontario assembly plant. The Oakville plant is currently undergoing a $682 million expansion to meet growing demand. That expansion is scheduled to be completed in the next year.
