Town begins preparations for Lytle Park project

During a work session meeting Monday Town of Lockport Supervisor Marc Smith said the highway department would begin hauling fill for a parking lot at Lytle Park.
The park’s lot, located on North Canal Road, will be expanded in the spring. An almost two-mile walking trail will also be created next year and include a 400-foot boardwalk section through the wetland area of the park.
In other town news:
• The town will soon vote to abandon a portion of Crown Drive. Yahoo! recently purchased an additional 12-acres of land in the industry park to expand their existing facility.
As part of the project, their building would cross over part of the existing roadway.
• Councilman Paul Siejak announced that in the first 9 month of 2012, town residents have recycled 26,590 pounds of electronic waste. The town has received $1,725 for the program.
A shed is located behind the town hall for residents to drop off old electronics.
• The Town of Lockport will hold their Winter Wonderland event on Nov. 25 from noon to 3 p.m. at Day Road Park.
Santa Claus will arrive at the Christmas Cottage, there will be horse drawn carriage rides, hot chocolate and treats.
The park’s light display will also be turned on during the event.
The event is part of the Christmas on the Canal weekend.
