100th birthday celebrated

Helen Pickup
HAMBURG — Helen Pickup, of Hamburg, celebrated her 100th birthday on May 26 surrounded by her three children; Nancy Taylor of Wildwood, Fla.; Bedford (Bub) Pickup of Chatsworth, Calif.; and Terry Pickup of DeBary, Fla.; along with three of her eight grandchildren, and two of her twelve great-grandchildren. She also has three great-great-grandchildren. There were many cousins and friends present for the celebration.

Pickup and her late husband Bedford lived at 446 Pleasant Ave. for almost 75 years.

She was born and raised in Cattaraugus and retired from the New York State Department of Transportation office, located on Evans Street in Hamburg.

Before moving to Elderwood assisted living over a year ago, she would go to antique auctions, play cards and bingo. She reads at least three books a week. She is a longtime member of the Hamburg chapter of the Moose. She also bets on professional football and basketball games with her son Terry.
