BLASDELL — Recent elections for Blasdell Volunteer Fire Department officers have produced some familiar winners.
The Blasdell Village Board has announced that John Welch will retain his position as fire chief, to go along with Leonard Fusco, the first assistant chief. Each individual’s term is one year in length, as the election results were approved by the village board, which also appointed Greg Stoklosa to the position of second assistant chief. That role also carries a one-year term. The one-year terms are new to the department for next year.
Blasdell Mayor Michael Petrie congratulated the trio for gaining officer spots in the fire department. Welch noted that the company answered 19 department calls in November, with 16 that needed emergency medical technician responses and 14 of which required transportation.
Other fire department-related action included the board’s unanimously approving motions to remove Trisha Fitzpatrick and Robert Riley from the company’s active rolls. It was announced that both did not meet necessary obligations to maintain status within the fire department.
Petrie and Trustee Rob Hefner thanked the village’s department of public works for its quick response in clearing snow, during the previous week’s winter storm. Petrie encouraged residents to keep assisting one another with shoveling this winter, especially advocating for capable individuals to help the elderly or physically unable persons with their residences.
The village code dictates that persons of occupancy, even in an apartment building, are responsible for clearing their sidewalk area of snow.
“It’s great when residents help one another,” Petrie said, in regard to Blasdell persons’ assisting others with shoveling.
In another matter, Deputy Mayor Lou McDonald said that village officials are seeking mechanisms to use for next year’s pumpkin launch, which will be held during Blasdell’s annual Halloween party. Anyone with such items or information may call the village hall at 822-1921.
The next meeting of the Blasdell Village Board will take place at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 18 in the Village Municipal Building.
