Holiday season brings fun events, shows and exhibits to the gardens

SOUTH BUFFALO - The Buffalo and Erie County Botanical Gardens invites you to some fun events, shows and exhibits this holiday season. The new Junior Botanist Camp Day for Kids will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on “Green Friday,” Nov. 29. The gardens will then open the annual vibrant Poinsettia Show and the Garden Railway Exhibit on Nov. 29 through Jan. 5, Santa’s Workshop is on Dec. 14 and Dollar Day is planned for Dec. 29.

Instead of Black Friday, make it a “Green Friday.” The new Junior Botanist Camp Day for Kids ages 5 to 12 will be held from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. on Nov. 29. Kids will become junior botanists for the day, exploring the gardens, learning about plants, playing games and other fun activities. Kids will even get to take home a plant of their very own. Campers will need to bring lunch but a healthy snack will be provided. Pre-registration is required as space is limited. Camp is $18 for members of the gardens and $20 for non-members. Call 827-1584 ext. 291 for more information.

The Poinsettia Show brings thousands of poinsettias to fill the gardens with a variety of cheerful colors during the holiday season including apricot pinks, salmon corals, creamy whites and lipstick reds. These rich colors of nature will brighten your visit and give warmth to even the coldest days during the winter season. During the Poinsettia Show, the Western New York Garden Railway Society will stage two fun train exhibits. Thomas the Train and a traditional train set-up will be on display for kids and adults to enjoy. Admission tickets for the show, which runs from Nov. 29 through Jan. 5 (train exhibit is included), are available at the door and are $9 adults, $8 seniors and students, $5 kids 3 to 12, and free to garden members and kids under 3.

Bring your family to the gardens on Dec. 14 for Santa’s Workshop. Capture a picture with Santa and create some fun crafts in his workshop. This is a jolly time for your family to enjoy the winter season while basking in the beauty of the gardens. Garden admission tickets are available at the door and are $9 adults, $8 seniors and students, $5 kids ages 3 to 12, and free to garden members and kids under 3. Santa’s Workshop admission is an additional $1 per child and adults are admitted free. Photos with Santa will be available for $5 each.

Dollar Day will be held on Dec. 29. Everyone can enjoy the gardens with the whole family. Admission is $1 for everyone and free to garden members and kids under 3.
