HAMBURG — On Aug. 30, Wal-Mart employee Terry Earsing posted a photo to his Facebook with derogatory comments against two Muslim women who were shopping in the store. After the post was brought to Wal-Mart’s attention by the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Earsing was fired from his assistant manager position.
Ryan Mahoney, board president of CAIR-NY, said that Earing apologized for his actions.
“We were able to get in touch with him,’ Mahoney said. “He expressed what seemed to be sincere apologies.
CAIR-NY sent out another letter on behalf of Earsing to Wal-Mart with the recognition that the former employee had apologized for his actions. “We said they should consider him [having his job back] ... and that’s the end of it, as far as I know,” CAIR-NY’s board president said.
Mahoney said that he wanted to make it clear what CAIR-NY’s mission statement is. “We are focused on peace and understanding,” he said. “Because he did apologize for it and recognized his mistake, we were hoping there would be a happy ending to the story.”
