The American Red Cross bloodmobile will be among several attractions returning for the sixth annual WNY Health Expo on Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Hamburg Fairgrounds.
The sixth annual Western New York Health Expo, presented by Metro Group, Inc., is returning to the Hamburg Fairgrounds this Sunday, Feb. 24 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
This free family-friendly event is an informative, fun-filled experience for people of all ages. There will be cooking demonstrations, seminars and free medical screenings will be offered.
There will be a lot to see, with over 80 vendors at the health show, which is being sponsored by Quest Diagnostics, Accel Care, Best Fitness and Classic Hits 104.1
The expo will feature a number of seminars and food demonstrations throughout the day.
Chef Binks, from WGRZ’s show “The Healthy Zone,” will conduct eating healthy seminars at 11 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.
At noon, former Buffalo Bills offensive lineman Joe Delamielleure, a member of the famous “Electric Company” line of the 1970s, will demonstrate exercise bands for home use.
A healthy cooking demonstration by Father Paul Seil of “Our Daily Bread” will be held at 1 p.m. He will be preparing shrimp, veggie and fruit skewers with low calorie Caesar dressing and low calorie yogurt/blueberry dip.
Deaf Adult Services will provide ASL interpreters for those that need translation services at the expo.
New to the expo this year is the “S-Miles to Go” mobile dental clinic. Visitors can see the three-chair mobile dental unit from the University at Buffalo.
Mobility Plus will offer scooter test drives and diabetic shoe measuring.
For those looking to donate blood, the American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be located inside the Event Center in the back right corner.
Something a little different for those who are age 18-and-older is the “Spit for the Cure,” where staff from RPCI’s Data Bank and BioRepository will be on hand collecting saliva samples.
The DBBR stores the information for people both with and without cancer, providing researchers with data that could help identify risk factors and ultimately help determine why some people develop cancers, while others do not.
Children are encouraged to come to the Kids Corner, where they can enjoy a visit from Hamburg’s Volunteer Fire Department’s Sparky The Talking Dog, who will offer fire prevention and safety guidelines to the youngsters.
Other activities include a bounce house and slides, Build-A-Bear and DJ Dance Boogie will be providing his animal balloons to the younger attendees.
The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children will be on hand, too. One will have the opportunity to have their child’s photo and fingerprints taken, which are then used to create a Digital I.D. card for the parents.
The expo offers a number of door prizes and two grand prizes that include: full decompression and comprehensive spinal exam, valued at $1,000 by Universal Chiropractic, and two 1-year memberships to Best Fitness valued at $250 each.
