James Ballard

James E. Ballard Sr. of Hamburg died Aug. 12.

He was the fiancé of Jackie Pitonack; father of Deeann (Michael) Grasso and James (Michelle) Ballard Jr.; stepfather of Andrew (Mark Whitney) Pitonack III; grandfather of Angel, Tina, Michael, Maria, Charlene and the late James; great-grandfather of Hayden; brother of Juanita Allen, Helen Parisi, Loise Evans, Blanche Lombardo and Harold, Orville, Robert, Jack and Alice Ballard; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Aug. 19 from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel, located at 5453 Southwestern Blvd., where funeral services will be held on Aug. 20.

Joseph James Colligan
Joseph James Colligan of New Port Richey, Fla., formerly of Hamburg, died June 27.

He was the husband of Elizabeth (nee Sievers) Colligan; father of Renee (Thomas) Bystryk and the late Joseph James Colligan Jr.; son of the late John and Margaret Naughton Colligan Sr.; brother of John (Sue) Colligan and the late Kathleen Colligan; also survived by three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 from the Hamburg Wesleyan Church, located at 4999 McKinley Parkway.

Nathaniel DuBois
Nathaniel DuBois, 66, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, formerly of Buffalo, died on Aug. 4.

He was the husband of Karen Bucktooth; son of Norma and the late Nathaniel DuBois; father of Nathaniel DuBois Jr., Jacqulyn (Jacob) Kalyan; stepfather of five; also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother of Edward (Hazel), Maryann DuBois and Margaret Mary (David) White.

A divine liturgy and panachyda were held at Saint Nicholas Ukranian Catholic Church on Aug. 7. Arrangements were made by the Wentland Funeral Home.

Teresa Fox
Teresa Ann Fox, 68, of Martinsburg, W.Va., formerly of East Eden, died on June 8 at home.

She was born Dec. 19, 1944 in Cleveland, Ohio, to the late Felix Stanley and Mary Barbara Fintak Kaminski.

She was a member of Saint Leo Catholic Church in Inwood, W.Va. She had served in the Women’s Fidelity and the Alter Rosary Society at Saint Mary’s Church in East Eden. She was a member of the Ford Wagon Train in Buffalo.

She is survived by her children, Michael (Melinda) Fox, Felix Fox, John (Angela) Fox, Mary Fox and Anne Marie (Bryan) Clifford; nine grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, siblings Jim White, Louis (Dorie) Kaminski and Kenny (Rose) Kaminski; also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Fox, and two brothers.

A Mass of Christian burial was held at Saint Leo Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held at Saint Mary’s Church in East Eden at 10 a.m. on Aug. 31.

Peter Gugino
Peter F. Gugino Sr., 72, of Brant, died Aug. 10.

He was the owner and operator of Peter F. Gugino Farms Inc., the Brant town justice for six terms and a Welch’s Grape Cooperative Board of Directors member.

He was the husband of Geraldine (nee Arcoraci) Gugino; father of Gina (Mike) Hackbarth and Peter (Joleen) Gugino Jr.; son of the late Fred and Grace Gugino; grandfather of Brittany, Justine, Brandon, Lauren and Brooke; brother of Carol (Pat) D’Orazio. Charles and Fred (Kathy) Gugino.

A service was held from the Addison Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian burial was held at St. Anthony’s Church of Farnham.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Mount Carmel Cemetery Association.

Interment will be in Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Cemetery of Brant.

Marilyn Henry
Marilyn M. (nee Hamann) Henry of Eden died Aug. 5.

She was the wife of Lowell; mother of Scott (Cheryl) Henry, Holly Matoni and Heather Henry; grandmother of seven; sister of Daniel (Virginia) Hamann; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Buffalo.

Dean LaLone
Dean A. LaLone, 53, of Angola died Aug. 8 in the Center for Hospice and Palliative Care of Cheektowaga.

He had worked for James E. Strates Carnival Shows for more than 35 years.

He was the father of Charles and Joshua De Simone. Also survived by friends Gerald (Margaret) Ott, Paula (Kurt) Ott-Bojanowski, Pamela (Edward Goldsborough) Vanderpool, Aaron, Harlei, Tyler, Angel, Cheyenne and Savannah.

A funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the Addison Funeral Home Inc., located at 262 North Main St. in Angola.

Eugene Pickert
Eugene A. Pickert, 99, of Hamburg, died Aug. 3.

Husband of the late Louise (nee Manning); father of L. Mary Terence Mannion and Susan (Peter) Yeskoot; brother of the late Loretta Knupp; grandfather of Peter Jr. (Anne) and Jody Yeskoot, Shelby (Timothy Jr.) Max, Tracy (Blake) Dunn, Sean and the late Jeffrey Mannion; great-grandfather of Sophia, Gemma, Grace and Joan.

Service will be held Aug. 15 from 7 p.m. – 9 at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 16 at Saints Peter & Paul Church.

Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Western New York.

Entombment will be in Oakwood Cemetery of Detroit, Mich.

Daniel Salerno
Daniel D. Salerno of Blasdell died Aug. 11.

He was the son of Donna (Daniel) Kogut and Thomas (Pat) Salerno; brother of Thomas (Claudia) Salerno, Nicole (Joseph) Bonczar, Michelle (Bob) Scroggins and Susanne Kogut; uncle of Tyler, Hayden Mariah and the late Nicholas; great-uncle of Emilio; grandson of the late Delbert and Mary Herkimer; nephew of Joyce (Tony Grisanti) Gugino and the late Sandra (late Raymond) McNaughton; also survived by family, friends and neighbors.

A service will be held from 3 – 8 p.m. on Aug. 16 from the Blasdell/Lackawanna Chapel of the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home. A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Aug. 17 at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church.

Interment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Lisa Salzman

Lisa C. Salzman of Hamburg died Aug. 4.

She was the daughter of Sherry (Jim Shea) Salzman and Floyd Salzman Jr. (fiance Sonia Pearl); sister of Adam (Dana Amos) Salzman, Holly (Gregory) Orlowski and Justin (Carleen) Salzman; aunt of Matthew, Diamond, Brandon, Taylor and Noah; granddaughter of J. Paul and the late Jeanie Stumpf and the late Floyd and Lillian Salzman Sr.; also survived by family and friends.

A visitation was held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel on Aug. 10. A funeral service was held on Aug. 11, from the Wesleyan Church of Hamburg, located at 4999 McKinley Parkway.

John Williams
John A. “Jack” Williams of Hamburg died Aug. 8.

He was the husband of Carol (nee Eckert) Williams; father of Karen Hance and Darlene (Jeff) Sexton; grandfather of Zachary Hance and James Sexton; son of the late Louis and Elsie (nee Austick) Williams; brother of Ronald (late Sandra) Williams; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel on Aug. 11. Prayers were said on Aug. 12, followed by a Mass of Christian burial at Saints Peter & Paul Church. Interment in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Robert Williams
Robert E. Williams, 70, of Eden, died on July 30 at the home of his companion.

He was the companion of Elizabeth Castiglia; father of Robert and Michael (Kerri) Williams; brother of Fredrick Williams, Sandra (Peter) Winiewicz, Charles (Karen) and William (Katrina) Williams; grandfather of Dillon, Derek, Brent, Nathan and Rachel Williams.

He was a former pilot, retired operating engineer, a car enthusiast and drag racer for more than 50 years. He held an IHRA 9-second license. He won many events at the Dunkirk Airport and Niagara, Lowville, Lancaster and Leicester drag strips.

Arrangements were done by the Laing Funeral Home Inc., located at 2724 West Church St. in Eden.
