Harry Robert “Bob” Alles, 90, died Dec. 13 at Jennie B. Nursing Home in Springville.
Bob grew up in Riverside, N.Y., the son of Harry and Leah Alles. He retired from the New York Telephone Company after 30 years and spent 30 years in Lake Worth, Fla., with summers in Sand Lake, Ontario.
Bob sailed, golfed, skied, bowled, fished and pitched horseshoes. He was a World War II Army veteran and attended Nazareth Lutheran Church in Hamburg.
He was the husband of the late Pam (nee Caramagno) Alles; father of Jeanne (Patrick) DeKeyserling, Claire (Gary) Nelligan, Jeffrey (Neva) Alles, Mary (Quentin) Johnson and Jonathan Alles; grandfather of Leah and Erin Alles, Joseph Mendola, Alex DeKeyserling and Tori Arisais Alles. He was the brother-in-law of Fran Wadkins.
JoAnn FleckensteinJoAnn Fleckenstein
JoAnn G. (nee Schram) Fleckenstein, of Colden, died Dec. 11.
For 17 years, she worked at West Seneca Developmental Center, and at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital. She had helped her daughter at Sweet Tots Child Care, for several years.
She went camping, traveled to Hawaii, spent time with her grandchildren, cooked and baked.
She was the wife of William Fleckenstein; mother of Denise (Rich) Vitale, Patricia (Joseph) Place, William (Darla) Fleckenstein Jr., Mary (Michael Laflamme) Fleckenstein and the late John Fleckenstein; grandmother of 11 grandchildren; survived by seven sisters and predeceased by a sister and a brother; also survived by many nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian burial was held on Dec. 15 from St. George’s Church in West Falls. Arrangements were made by the Wurtz Funeral Home, 9287 Boston State Road, Boston.
Richard NowakRichard Nowak
Dr. Richard M. Nowak, 80, of Springville, died Dec. 13 at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.
He was born in Buffalo on July 15, 1932, the son of Martin and Josephine (nee Gajewski) Nowak.
He had been a commander in the United States Navy from 1967 – 1973.
He was a physician at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital, a member of the American Medical Association; past president of the Medical Arts Society, BCH Hospital Board and Springville Athletic Scholarship Committees, a soloist at Canisius College Glee Club; a member of the Chopin Singing Society and the Springville Country Club and he had been the Springville-Griffith Institute physician. He watched sports and worked on crossword puzzles.
He was the husband of the late Patricia (nee Gruber); father of Martin (Lynn) Nowak of East Aurora, Kate (Michael) Riffee of Columbus, Ohio, Suzanne (Thomas) McDonnell of East Aurora, Tricia (Edward) Mikula of Columbus, Ohio and the late Karen Nowak; grandfather of 12 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held Dec. 18 from St. Aloysius Church. The Rev. Lawrence Cobel officiated. Burial was in St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga.
