Jeanne (nee Schmidt) Borrman, of Derby, died on May 10.

She was the wife of the late Theodore, mother of Todd (Kimberly) and Brett Borrman, grandmother of Edward (Antionette) Shealy and Stephanie (Dale) Beck and great-grandmother of three. She was the sister of Clarene Socha; Kristina (late James) Schaeffer and the late Frank, Joseph and Helen Schmidt and Carolyn Latek. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Ann DeCarlo

Ann (nee Bianchino) DeCarlo of Hamburg, died May 10.

She was the wife of Frank DeCarlo; mother of Kathy (Dan) Carroll, Paula (Philip) Macaluso, Charles and the late Frank DeCarlo Jr.; grandmother of seven grandchildren and great-grandmother of five great-grandchildren; daughter of the late Luigi and Elizabeth Bianchino; sister of Lawrence Bianchino and Dolly Palicki; predeceased by three brothers and three sisters.

Margaret Durni

Margaret “Peggy” (nee Peters) Durni, 81, of Vero Beach, Fla. died May 5 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

She was born in Buffalo and had been a resident of Vero Beach for four years, after moving there from Hamburg.

She is survived by her mother Margaret Peters of Vero Beach; her children, Raymond (Tanya) Durni of Pittsburg, Pa.; Joanne (Tim) Turnwall of Hamburg; David Durni of Vero Beach; Lisa Fahrenholz of Penfield, N.Y. and six grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her father Aloysius Peters and husband Paul Durni.

A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 16 at Saint Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church in Orchard Park. The family will host a reception immediately following at Brierwood Country Club. Interment will take place at Saint’s Peter & Paul Cemetery in Hamburg.

Earl Fickelsher, of Blasdell, died May 9.

He was the husband of Inge (nee Wuetschner) Fickelsher; father of Ziggy (Myrna) Wuetschner, Michael (Elizabeth) Taylor, Susan (Chris) Wildman and Ann (Mark) Cocconetti; grandfather of seven grandchildren and great-grandfather of three great-grandchildren; brother of Joan Weaver. Funeral services were held at the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home on May 14. Internment was in Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.

Roberta Govenitto

Roberta “Robin” (nee Beebe) Govenitto, 58, of Hamburg, died May 5.

She was the wife of Dominic; daughter of Evelyn (nee Howland) and the late Robert Beebe; sister of the late Cheryl Beebe; sister-in-law of Patti Govenitto; niece of Marv and Duty, of Texas; also survived by many cousins and friends.

She ran her own bookkeeping business for years, then joined the J.P. Fitzgerald’s restaurant in Hamburg, as office manager and worked there until she became ill.

Joanne Hornberger

Joanne (nee Chauby) Hornberger of Hamburg, died May 5.

She was born April 29, 1937. She was the wife of Lawrence Hornberger; mother of Lawrence (fiancé Marlene Lundberg), Thomas (Denise), Ann (David) Amico and the late twins, Loretta and Lynn; grandmother of four grandchildren and great-grandmother of one great-grandson; daughter of the late Stephen and Ann Chauby; sister of Anna Jane (Russell) Mantione, Barb Wipperman, Andy (Lisa) Chauby and the late Stephen Chauby.

A funeral was held May 10 at the First Baptist Church of Hamburg. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Western New York or The First Baptist Church of Hamburg. Arrangements were made by the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home Inc.

Celina (nee Sim) Howie, of Blasdell, died May 10.

Therese Somogye Rychlik

Therese (nee Suja) Somogye Rychlik, 76, died May 8 in Mercy Hospital of Buffalo.

She was born Jan. 5, 1938 in Lackawanna, to Peter and Elizabeth (nee Bekefi) Suja. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society and a supporter of Catholic Charity.
She was the mother of Rosemary Blocho, Laura Bishop, Claudia (David) Burdick and the late John M. Somogye, Jr.; sister of Barbara Balding and the late Peter Suja; sister-in-law of Eleanor Suja; grandmother of Owen, Sarah, Anna, Emily and Douglas; great-grandmother of Savannah, Nathan and Simone and the aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Calling hours will be May 16 at the Laing Funeral Home Inc., located at 2724 W. Church St. Eden, from 3-8 p.m.
A memorial Mass will be May 17 at 9 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Church in Eden. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Jozef Jankowski
Jozef Jankowski

Jozef Jankowski, 92, of Orchard Park, died on May 7.

Born in Poland on May 1, 1922, he was a survivor of the Holocaust and served his country. After marrying his wife, Catharina in 1950, they emigrated from the Netherlands to America with their son, Peter. From the 1960s until the 1980s he built Jankowski Custom Kitchens, located on Broadway in Sloan.

He was a craftsman, having built homes in the western New York area, as well as musical instruments including violins and hammer dulcimers. He and his wife moved to Port St. Lucie, Fla. and lived there for over 10 years, where he worked for Kegel and Stilli, designing bank interiors.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years; his son Emil (Patti) and predeceased by his late son Peter (Georgiana). He is also survived by five grandchildren, Nicole (Allen) Bernard-Erb; Amy (Robin) Tipton; Michael (Nicole); Kristina (Tom) Kowalski and David (Alicia) and 16 great-grandchildren.

A graveside service was held May 10 at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Eden. Arrangements were made by Laing Funeral Home.

Angeline Szal

Angeline Szal, 84, of Eden , died at Mercy Hospital on Mother’s Day, May 11.

She was born in Eden to the late Alexander and Valentina (Matuszewski) Wierzba.

She was the mother of Jon, Alan and Bradley. She could often be found sweeping her driveway early in the morning, and was also a frequent visitor to casinos across the United States and Canada.

She is predeceased by her siblings, Edward and Edmund Wierzba, Irene Corp, Raymond, Stanley, Theodore and Richard Wierzba, Helen Kwilos and Sophie Dabelle. She is also survived by 54 nieces and nephews.

Private services will be held at the convenience of her family. Memorials may be made to Mercy Hospital.

Richard Szpara

Richard J. Szpara, of Hamburg, died May 5.

He was the husband of Rita (nee Benbenek) Szpara; father of Debbie (Jim) Yanacek, Cindy (Dave) Dombrowski and Judy (Joe) Courtade; grandfather of David, Jenna, Justin, Chelsea and Courtney; son of the late Andrew and Agnes Szpara; brother of Raymond (late Joan), Daniel (Patricia), Thaddeus (Shelly) and the late Arthur (Eleanor) Szpara.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held May 17 at 9:30 a.m. at Queen of Angels Church, Lackawanna. There will be no prior visitation. Arrangements were made by the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home. Share condolences at www.kaczorfunerals.com.

Brian Wendling

Brian Wendling, 48, of Boston died April 27.

He drove in local demolition derbies, later as an inspector, and was a truck driver for the town of Boston.

He was the husband of the late Rochelle (nee Franklin); son of George and the late Florence Wendling; brother of Pamela (Doug) and Donald (Karen) Wendling and Karen (Eugene) Wieckowski; uncle of Matthew (Jill) Wendling, Emily and Derek Wieckowski; also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visitation was held at the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home Inc. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Saturday, May 17 at Saint John the Baptist Church in Boston.

Final resting place will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Roswell Park or the Erie County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Stella Williams

Stella. M (nee Buziak) Williams, of Hamburg, died May 4.

She was the wife of the late Benjamin L. Williams; mother of Joann (Carl) Ertel, Nancy Williams, Jeanette (Ron) Haberer and Thomas (Darlene) Williams; grandmother of Rachel (Michael) Collins, Andrew Williams, Nick Cullis, Aaron Ertel, Alexa and Kendal Haberer.

Funeral services were held at Saint Matthew’s United Church of Christ, Hamburg, on May 9. Flowers declined. Memorials may be made to charities of the donor’s choice.
