Louis Bell

Louis Bell of Hamburg died April 12.

He was the husband of Helen (nee Latzer) Bell; father of the late Anthony Bell; brother of Donna (Dennis) Ray and the late Joan (late Paul) Guzock. 

Visitation and a funeral were held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel. Interment was in Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.

Margaret Boltz

Margaret “Dolly” (nee Bannister) Boltz RN of Lake View died April 12.

She was the wife of the late Frederick Boltz; sister of Dorothy (Norman) Hurst; aunt of Amy Reeb and Rusty (Kelly Murray) Hurst; also survived by great-nieces and great-nephews.

Visitation was held from the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home Inc. of Hamburg. A Mass of Christian burial was held from Saint Francis of Assisi Church of Athol Springs.

James Bushen
James Bushen of Orchard Park died April 10.

He was the son of Margaret “Peg” Bushen; nephew of Kathleen, James (Joan), William (Norine), Robert (Sharon), Richard (Karen), Michael (Maria) and Joseph (Kelly) Bushen; also survived by many cousins and family members from the Blasdell/Hamburg area.

Visitation and a prayer service were held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Blasdell/Lackawanna Chapel.

Margaret Colby
Margaret (nee Kaupa) Colby of Hamburg died April 12.

She was the wife of the late Norton Colby; mother of Diane (David) Dunn and Joyce Lehman; grandmother of Cheryl (John) Davenport, Scott Dunn, Darren and Joy Lehman; great-grandmother of Lauren Britton, Mckyla Brooks and Scottie Dunn; great-great-grandmother of two; daughter of the late Peter and Mary Kaupa; sister of Helen (late Charles) Hyatt; predeceased by four brothers and one sister; also survived by other family members and friends.

There will be no visitation. A private service will be held. Arrangements were made by the Lombardo Funeral Home’s Southtowns Chapel.

Laura Hahn
Laura Hahn

Laura “Lill” Hahn, 96, formerly of Hamburg, died April 9 in Phoenix, Ariz.

She was born in Buffalo on April 10, 1917. After she spent much of her early years in Hamburg, she and her husband moved to Cottonwood, Ariz.

She was the wife of the late Loren Hahn; mother of Terry (Mahriene) Hahn and the late Gregory Hahn; grandmother of Wendy (Daniel) Fann and Carolyn (Thomas) Jarrett; great-grandmother of Hailey and Benjamin Jarrett.

She will be interred with her husband at the National Memorial Cemetery in Phoenix.

Gerald Hund

Gerald “Pete” Hund of Hamburg died April 13.

He was the husband of Christina (nee Cipriano); son of the late Herbert and Mary (nee Ackley) Hund; brother of Mildred (late Edward) Steiner, Marion (late Ronald) Regan and the late Lucy (late Thomas) Mescall, George (late Margaret), Ralph (late Julia), Caroline (late Carl) Bodenstedt, Frances and Esther (James) Byers; brother-in-law of Joan (late Carmen) Selice, Humbert “Al” Cipriano and Linda Cipriano; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from the Colonial Memorial Chapels Inc. of Lackawanna. A funeral service was held from Saints Peter & Paul Church of Hamburg.

Geraldine Larkin
Geraldine “Jeri” (nee Larry) Larkin of Blasdell died April 12.

She was the wife of the late Donald Larkin Sr.; mother of Bruce (Rhonda) Main, Timothy Main and the late Larry Main; stepmother of Donald (Linda) Larkin Jr., Jean Szyszkowski and the late Catherine Herman; also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; predeceased by brothers and sisters.

Celia McClintock
Celia (nee Rolek) McClintock, 89, of Hamburg died April 10.

She retired from the Frontier Central School District as a grounds and maintenance worker.

She was the mother of Margaret “Peggy” (late Glenn Strickler) (Stanley) Kwilos, Mary (Joseph) McClintock – Scarpace and Patrick (Jane) McClintock; grandmother of Tracy Strickler, Robert (Kelly) Strickler and Sean Strickler, Elaina (Jarrett) Herrin, Ryan McClintock, Thomas (Beth), Kenneth and Kevin Kwilos; great-grandmother of Megan and Allison Strickler, Jaden, Keegan and Reagan Herrin, Jackson, Zachary, Spencer, Connor, Mackenzie, Madison and Tyler Kwilos; sister of Joseph (Ceil) Rolek, Ann (late Edward) Zylka, Frances (late Mike) Bogdan and the late Martha (late Lefty) Maciag, Clara (late Patsy) Bryk and Steve (late Mel) Rolek.

Visitation was held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial was held from Our Mother of Good Counsel Church. Interment was in Woodlawn Cemetery. Edna Murray
Edna (nee Peters) Murray, 96, of Boston died April 7.

She was a manager at Dalton’s Youth Center in Hamburg.

She was the wife of the late Melvin Murray; mother of Marilyn (Yves) Coulombe; sister of Twila Busch, Laura (Kenneth) Wheeler and Faye (John) Wheeler; also survived by three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held, at a later date. Arrangements were made by the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home Inc.

Jack Shutlak
Jack Shutlak of Blasdell died April 8.

He was the father of Michael (fiancé Nicole Flierl) Shutlak; son of the late Michael and Florence Shutlak; brother of James (Paula) and the late Michael Shutlak.

Melvin Turnbull
Melvin Turnbull

Melvin Turnbull, 82, of Eden died April 11.

He was born in Buffalo on April 18, 1931 to John Malcolm and Grace (nee Varney) Turnbull.

He retired from General Mills. He hunted, fished and farmed. He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1948 – 1952, earning the rank of sergeant.

He was the husband of the late Joan (nee Adrion); father of Tom Turnbull; brother of the late Malcolm (Jean) Turnbull, Eleanor (Don) Swain, the late William (Em) Turnbull, Phyllis (Wilbur) Jost and the late Edwin (late Arlene) Turnbull.

Charles Zahm Sr.
Charles Zahm Sr.

Charles Zahm Sr. of Rushford, N.Y. formerly of Woodlawn, died April 4.

He was a custodian at Frontier Central School for 20-plus years, a life member of the Woodlawn Fire Department and Rushford Conservation Club, a member of AMVETS Post No. 897 and a charter member of Mesquite Elks Lodge No. 2811.

He was the husband of Linda (nee Wizlankas) Zahm; father of Charlene (Christopher) Dodd and Charles Zahm Jr.; grandfather of Chloe, Camryn and Madelynne; son of the late Carl and Anna Zahm; brother of Ida Houston, Anna (James) Simpson, Vivian Parker and the late Carl (late Janet) Zahm; also survived by other family members and friends.

Visitation was held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Blasdell/Lackawanna Chapel. A Mass of Christian burial was held from at Queen of Angels Church. Interment was in Hillcrest Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Woodlawn Fire Department or the Mesquite Fire and Rescue of Mesquite, Nev.
