Jewel Chase

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, June 16 at 11 a.m. from the St. Francis High School Chapel for Jewel E. (Kinney) Chase, of Lake View, who died on Saturday, June 2, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Glenn) Steinert and John (Connie) and Michael (Janice Garvin) Chase; sister, Alice (Herman) Achtziger; 11 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Jack Chase; son, James Robert Chase; and brothers, Robert (late Norma) and George Kinney.

Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Merlyn Cook

Funeral services were held on Friday (June 8) from the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation Volunteer Fire Department for Merlyn L. “Snake” Cook, of Newtown of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on Monday, June 4, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Audrey (Jonathan) Cook; children, Janice (Chris Brooks) and Linda Henhawk and Deborah Jonathan; siblings, Carmen Stevens; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his son, Merl L. Cook; and siblings, Lyle and Dale Stevens and Myrtle Lay.

Mr. Cook was a member of the Heron Clan and a U.S. Marine.

He was a retiree from General Motors in Tonwanda.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Charlene Martinez

Funeral services were held on Monday (June 11) from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home for Charlene (Breidenstein) Martinez, of Hamburg, who died on Thursday, June 7, 2012.

She is survived by her husband, Leonard Martinez; her children, Doreen (Eric) Birchmeier, Craig (Patricia) and Mark (Rachel) Martinez; grandchildren, Patrick and Megan; and siblings, Donna (Anthony) Andriaccio, Patricia Schmitt, Gail (Stanley) Cymbrowski, Linda Zablonski and Donald (Lucy), Robert (Kathy), Norman (Mary) and Charles (Linda) Breidenstein.

She was predeceased by her parents, Herbert and Elsie (Platt) Breidenstein.

She was interred in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Tina Miller

Funeral services were held on Tuesday (June 12) from the Chapel of Mary, Stonehill College, Easton, for Tina C. (Yackle) Miller, 45, of Norton, Mass., formerly of Eden, who died on Monday, June 4, 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 23 years, David Miller; children, Victoria M. and Nicole T. Miller; father, Raymond J. Yackle; siblings, Tracie (Rick) Schara and Timothy (Sue), Terri and Tami Yackle; in-laws Wayne (Veronica) Miller, Maria (John) Bridgewater and Brian (Amy) Miller; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Miller was predeceased by her mother, Carol (Witherell) Yackle.

A 1984 graduate of Eden High School, she continued her education at Johnson & Wales University to study culinary arts, which is where she met her husband, David, and graduated with her master’s degree in hospitality administration in 1989.

Mrs. Miller was employed as a food service manager for Epicurean Feast at Boston Scientific in Natick.

A devoted wife and mother, she attended all of her children’s activities and events. She loved to bake, especially birthday and wedding cakes for family and friends.

Her hobbies included reading, gardening, softball, going to the movies and she was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.

Albert Memmo

Funeral Services were held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home on Wednesday (June 13) for Albert F. Memmo, of Angola, who died on Saturday, June 9, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Elaine (Domanski) Memmo; children, Richard (MaryLou) Memmo and Darlene (Frank E. Kiley II) Grabowski; grandchildren, Anthony, Ashley, Brad and Matthew; great-grandchildren, Aubrianna and Giovanni; five sisters, one brother; and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Memmo was predeceased by four brothers and a sister.

Interment was in Forest Avenue Cemetery.

Helen Robinson

A memorial service was held on Saturday (June 9) from the Wentland Funeral Home for Helen J. (Fergusson) Robinson, 82, of North Collins, who died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

She is survived by her husband, Glenn Robinson; children, Lorie (Ray) Fritts, Carol (Rick) Zottola and Cheryl (Tony) Loprinzo; siblings, Iola (Joe) Fejes and Lorrain Turner; grandchildren, Michelle, Megan, Chris and Nicholas; and great-granddaughter, Aida.

Joseph Lewis

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday (June 9) from St. Mary of the Lake Church for Joseph R. Lewis, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen Lewis; children, Lisa (Mark) Grekulak and Joseph (Renea) Lewis; mother, Meridith (Robert) Janssen; siblings, Diane (Rich) Baranowski and Bobby Lewis; grandchildren, Megan, Matthew, Jillian and Mitchell; and nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his child, Kelly Lewis; and father, Joseph N. Lewis.

Helen Gaylord

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday (June 12) from SS. Peter and Paul Church for Helen Kathryn (Kerrick) Gaylord, 101, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, June 5, 2012.

She is survived by her children, David (Sharon) and Charles Gaylord; grandchildren, Mark (Kim), Douglas and Scott (Amy); and great-grandchildren, Jenna, Alex, Jake and Sam.

She was predeceased by her husband, Dudley Gaylord; and siblings, Veronica Gabel, Monica Shaw, Sylvester Kerrick and Fred Malec.

Mrs. Gaylord grew up in Gowanda and later lived in North Collins, Eden and Hamburg.

She was a legal stenographer in her husband’s law offices.

A former member of the Gowanda Country Club until her 95th birthday, she continued to play bridge with various groups until early this year.

She was a member of the Catholic Daughters of America and was very active in various charity drives over the years.

She was an avid golfer, enjoyed crossword puzzles and had a great appreciation for African violets, which she grew for many years.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Foundation.

John Patterson

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, June 14 from Blessed John Paul 11 Parish for John R. Patterson, Jr., of Derby, who died on Sunday, June 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Joanna (Przybyla) Patterson; children, Janet (David) Henry, Jody (Patrick) Keem, John and James (Tammy) Patterson; siblings, Margaret (late William) Maxwell, John and Henrietta Hady; grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, David, Morgan, Ashley, Laura, Hunter and Travis; and nieces and nephews.

Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Dorothy Johnson

Services were held at the convenience of the family for Dorothy Johnson, 92, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on Thursday, June 7, 2012.

She is survived by her son, Kenneth P. Snow; and grandson, Clifford Dennis Snow II.

She was predeceased by her husband, Walter Johnson.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Wolf Clan. She was loved by all who knew her. She was a beloved sister and a friend to many.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Marvin Horton

Funeral services were held on Monday (June 4) from the Wentland Fuenral Home for Marvin M. Horton, 71, of Eden, who died on Sunday, June 3, 2012.

He is survived by his daughters, Sharon Horton and Lisa Kriger; sisters, Ruth Metzler and Dorothy Clapp; two grandchildren; friends and Special Olympics roller skating judges.

Mr. Horton was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the Korean conflict.

Ruth Cline

Funeral services were held Monday (June 11) from St. John’s Community Church for Ruth Elizabeth (Finkbeiner) Cline, 92, of Eden, who died on June 5, 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Donald Cline; children, Linda (Tom) Benkelman, Bruce R. and Steven A. (Audrey) Cline; grandchildren, Connie (Peter) Tambacas, Ellen (Brent) Gregory, Dan, Heather, Jesse, Marcis (Kristin), Jeremy (Maureen) and Daniel Cline, and Janine and Jenna Benkelman; and great-grandchildren, Christian, Emma, Jacob, Sam, Dan, Mariah, Joaquin and Xavier.

Mrs. Cline was predeceased by her parents, Frederick L. and Cora (Petrie) Finkbeiner; son, David; and brothers, Frederick L. Jr., Clark P. and Harold E. Finkbeiner.

She graduated in 1943 from the Deaconess School of Nursing and worked as a registered nurse during World War II.

Known as “Grannie” to all, Mrs. Cline had a great sense of humor and enjoyed spending time with her family, baking, canning, tending flowers and sewing.

She enjoyed round and square dancing with her husband and was a strong advocate for “Peace.”

Mildred Brown

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 14 from 9:30 to 10 a.m. at the Laing Funeral Home, followed by services at The Tabernacle, Orchard Park, for Mildred Ruth (Kingsley) Brown, 84, of Eden, who died on Sunday, June 10, 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years , Norman E. Brown; children, Joyce Heinold, Frank (Darlene), David (Carolyn), Philip and Paul (Tracey) Brown; foster daughter, Mary (Steven) Rusin; siblings, George (Pat), Lavern (Georgie) and Ross (Shelia) Kingsley; sister-in-law, Jean Kingsley; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Brown was predeceased by her parents, William and Cathleen Kingsley; and siblings, Robert Kingsley and Kathryn Hennessey.

She attended Prince Edward Collegia High School and after working in a shoe store in Picton, Ontario, she moved to Toronto, where she worked at GE.

She then moved to Hamilton, Ontario, where she attended nursing school and worked with tuberculous patients at the sanitarium.

Following her marriage to Norman Brown in 1954, she moved to the United States, where she continued to work as a nurse until she had her first child.

Mrs. Brown was a stay-at-home-mother for many years, raising her five children and numerous foster children. She returned to work later at the West Seneca Developmental Center until her retirement.

She enjoyed attending plays, gardening and baking, with pies being her specialty.

Mrs. Brown also enjoyed watercolor painting, crocheting and traveling. She traveled to Hawaii, Europe and in recent years, she spent time visiting her daughter in Georgia.

Spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren brought her much joy during her retirement years.

Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Eden.

Gregory Lay

Funeral services were held Wednesday (June 13) from the Longhouse, Cattaraugus Indian Reservation for Gregory Lay, 56, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on Saturday, June 9, 2012.

He is survived by his mother, Madeline Lay; siblings, Veronica Reitter, Carlton John, Julie M. (David) John, Mary (late William) Monelle, Juanita Mae (late Dana) Jimerson, Michael L. (Jannette) Sr., Edward L. Jr., Blain (Carol) and Blake (Sandra) Lay; nieces and nephews; and companion, Beverly Thomas.

Mr. Lay was predeceased by his father, Edward L. Lay, Sr.

He was a member of the Wolf Clan and was an employee of the Seneca Niagara Casino.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Marie Campanella

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday (June 9) from Most Precious Blood Church for Marie K. (Rupocinska) Campanella, of Angola, who died on Wednesday, June 6, 2012.

She is survived by her husband, James F. Campanella; daughter, Annmarie (Thomas) Hanley; brother, Chester (Lorraine) Rupocinska; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Campanella was predeceased by her sons, James Jr., Joseph and Richard Campanella.

James O. Shank

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, June 14 at 1 p.m. from St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, West Falls, for James O. Shank, of Hamburg, who died on Sunday, June 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Paula (Stephan) Shank; children, Kristine (Shawn) Eastland, Lori, James (Jennifer) Jr., Jeffrey and Jonathan (Lee) Shank; stepdaughter, Stephanie Becker; siblings, George (Patricia) and Wayne Shank; nine grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Shank was predeceased by son, David Shank; and siblings, Sara and Roger.

He served in the U.S. Army after the Korean Conflict and was an electrician for NYNEX.

Mr. Shank was a member of the Hamburg Moose Lodge No. 992.

Burial will be in Griffin Mills Cemetery in West Falls.

Memorials may be made to Roswell Park.
