Daniel R. Gernatt Sr., 97, of Collins, died May 5, 2014.
Mr. Gernatt co-owned and operated the largest dairy farm in Erie County; owned and operated Gernatt Family of Companies, Dan Gernatt Gravel Products, Inc., Gernatt Asphalt Products, Inc., Country Side Sand and Gravel Products, Inc. with operations in Chaffee, Delevan, Freedom, Gowanda, Great Valley, Hanover, South Dayton, Springville, West Seneca, and Westfield; and owner of Dan Gernatt Farms in Collins, home of several hundred world-class harness-racing horses with the last name “Collins;” founder of Daniel and Flavia Gernatt Family Foundation to help people in greatest time of need; former member of 4-H.
He was the husband of the late Flavia Gernatt; son of the late John and Martha Gernatt; father of Patricia (James) Rebmann, Daniel (Roseann) Gernatt Jr., Phyllis (late Richard) Ulmer; brother of Esther Dittenhofer; predeseased by eight siblings; also survived by 16 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 10 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, East Main Street in Gowanda.
