Sister Mary Theodorica Pawlak

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday (Dec. 21) from Immaculate Conception Convent for Sister Mary Theodorica Pawlak, 98, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

She is survived by two sisters-in-law, Betty and Harriet Pawlak, and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Anthony and Margaret (Migowski) Pawlak.

Sister Theodorica was born Irene Pawlak in Milwaukee, Wis. She entered the Congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph as a postulant on Dec. 8, 1941. She professed her final vows on July 23, 1946.

For 22 years, she ministered in various areas of domestic service at Immaculate Conception Convent in Hamburg, St. Anthony’s Home in Hamburg, St. Mary’s Seminary in Crystal Lake, Ill., Ozanam Home in Milwaukee, Wis. and St. Mary’s Hospital in Brooklyn. From 1965 to 1986, she was a dietary assistant at Marycrest Manor in Livonia, Mich. When she returned to the Motherhouse, she helped in whatever way she could in the housekeeping department and dining room.

In November 2007, she joined the Sisters in the Colette Hilbert Care Community.

She will be remembered for her peaceful and joyful presence which endeared her to all of her caregivers. With the motto, “To do the will of God as the Blessed Mother did,” she accepted whatever the community assigned as her obedience.

She assisted in several homes for the aging, and ministered the community sewing room, where they sewed habits for the Sisters and Priests.

She loved listening to the Father Justin Rosary Hour and Polka music. In her later years, she spent much time in prayer, praying for the Community, family and friends. She loved to hear a good joke, and anything about St. Josephat Parish in Milwaukee, Wis. She was “Holy, wholesome, and a true Franciscan.”

Memorials may be made to the Franciscan Sisters of St. Joseph.

Burial was at St. Stanislaus Cemetery.

Harry Meng

A memorial service will be held at a later date for Harry “Butch” Meng, 68, of Hamburg, who died on Sunday, December 16, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Meng; children, Tammy and Timothy (Channon) Meng; grandchildren, Daniel Hauser, Morgan Quirk and Wyatt Haj; niece, Laura Carrow and many other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Meng was predeceased by his parents, Harry and Marion (Morse) Meng and many brothers and sisters.

Marian Igielinski

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday (Dec. 21) from Holy Spirit Church for Marian Igielinski, 77, of North Collins, who died on Thursday, December 20, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Camille Igielinski; children, John (Robin), Marion (Sue), and Peter (Sarah) Igielinski, Lilyanne (Edward) Szabat; step-children, Christopher (Julie) Slupinski and Marlena (Steven) Lippa; siblings, Julia (Bolek) Wosik, Michael (Bronia), Lepold (Stella), Anthony (Boleslawa and the late Poula) Igielinski, Albania (Kazinierz) Jaworski and Emilla (Kazimierz) Greszczuk; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Igielinski was predeceased by his wife, Josephine (Wos) Igielinski.

He was a member of American Legion Post 1587, Holy Name Society Holy Spirit Church and the William Dils Post 199 VFW.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo, Holy Spirit Church or the DAV.

Burial was at Holy Spirit Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

John M. Brosius

A funeral service was held Monday (Dec.24) from John J. Kaczor Funeral Home for John M. Brosius, 81, of Hamburg, who died on Thursday, December 20, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Sharon (Karim) Ali, Debra (William) Chavel and Christopher (Lisa) Brosius; grandchildren, Brandon (Lisa) and Colin Chavel, Shaina (Jesse) Brosius, Rihann and Tarik Ali; great-grandchildren, Riley and Sophia; brother-in-law, Robert (late Joan) Compise and nieces and nephews.

Mr. Brosius was predeceased by his wife, Joan A. (Compise) Brosius and his siblings, Oscar, Ruby and Carole.

He retired as a foreman at Bethlehem Steel.

Entombment was at Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to the Hospice Foundation of WNY.

Michael W. Skovenski

A Funeral Mass was held from St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida for Michael W. Skovenski, 58, of Oneida, formerly of Hamburg, who died on Thursday, December 13.

He is survived by his son, Michael Skovenski; brother, Richard (Diane) Skovenski; nephew, Kevin Skovenski; niece, Krista (Dan) Drake; former wife, Martha (Kitts) Skovenski and special canine companions, Charlie and Nicky.

Mr. Skovenski was predeceased by his parents, Chester R. and Malvina (Lekavich) Skovenski.

He graduated from Hamburg High School in 1972 and received his master’s degree in music education from SUNY Fredonia in 1976. After moving to the Oneida area in 1977, he taught music in the Vernon-Verona-Sherill Central School District and was the oboe instructor at Colgate University for 32 years, retiring in 2010. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church in Oneida, and the organist since 1977. He was also a member of the Colgate Concert Orchestra and played many concerts and shows with the Oneida Area Civic Chorale and Hamilton College. He also did private lessons in his home for youth in the area.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Rome, P.O. Box 4572, Rome, N.Y., 13442.

Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Ironside Funeral Home.

Harold Bottomley

A private family funeral service will be held at a later date for Harold Bottomley, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Lynn (Thomas) Buschen and Jeanne Bottomley.

Mr. Bottomley was predeceased by his wife, Marjorie (Szen) Bottomley and his son, Michael Bottomley.

Arrangements were made through the Loomis, Offers and Loomis, Hamburg Chapel.

Florence Fintak

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday (Dec. 22) from Epiphany of Our Lord Church for Florence (Kin) Fintak, 81, of North Collins, who died on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Robert R. (Tina) Fintak Jr., Valerie (Jim) Sarcione, Lois (Kevin) Steining, Raymond, Paul, Phillip (Marcia) and Joseph Fintak; sister, Dolores (Louis) Kaminski, and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Fintak was predeceased by her husband, Robert R. Fintak, and her siblings, Dorothy (Walter) Kazukiewicz, Raymond (Sophie) Kin, Emily (Steve) Papai, Valentine Kin Jr., and Stefania Kin.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Robert E. Borowski

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday (Dec. 22) from St. Anthony’s Church for Robert E. Borowski, of Angola, who died on Wednesday, December 19, 2012.

He is survived by his brother, Richard Borowski; niece, Beverly and nephew, Ronald.

Mr. Borowski was predeacesed by his parents, Edward and Sophie Borowski.

Memorials may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 26 Stanley St., Buffalo, N.Y. 14206.

Robert H. Jensen

A service will be held at a later date for Robert H. Jensen, 80, of Barefoot Bay, Fla., formerly of Lake View, who died on Tuesday, December 18, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley (Ball) Jensen; children, Tracy (Marty) McGrath, Kelly Gleason, Bonny and Bobby, and grandchildren, Ashley, Kate, Lindsey, Donny, Beau, Tess, Ian and Madison.

Mr. Jensen retired 25 years ago from North Collins Elementary School where he was principal. He had a great sense of humor and loved telling jokes and stories. He was an avid golfer and loved all sports, except for the Yankees.

Paul M. Walters

A funeral service was held Saturday (Dec.22) from Loomis, Offers & Loomis, Hamburg Chapel for Paul M. Walters, of Hamburg, who died on Monday, December 17, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Jonathan (Hannah) and Jennifer Walters (Joseph Nemec); parents, Ralph and Frances Walters; siblings, Bethann (Frederick) Cheney, Beverly (Ronald) Taylor , Mark (Diane) and Michael (Carol) Walters; grandchildren, Joseph Jr. and Valerie Nemec and numerous nieces and nephews.
