Obituaries for the Hamburg, Evans, Eden areas for the week of Sept. 20, 2012

JoAnn Vail

A funeral service was held Friday (Aug. 31) from the Evans Funeral Home in Norwalk, Ohio for JoAnn H. Vail, 66, of Norwalk, formerly of Derby, who died on Monday, August 27, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Kelli (Jason) Goodall and Thomas (Vicki) and David (Renee) Zubler; grandchildren, Brittany Katherine Zubler and Kaleigh and Ashley McComas; brothers, Everett (Marion) and David Vail; sisters-in-law, Marga and Rosemary Vail; and nieces and npehews.

She was predeceased by her parents, Everett G. and Anna (Gunzinger) Vail; and brothers, Thomas and John Vail.

Ms. Vail was born in Silver Creek. She graduated from Lake Shore Central Schools.

She was a registered nurse and enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Ralph Mardino

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Friday (Sept. 14) from Holy Spirit Church in North Collins for Ralph Mardino, 83, of North Collins, who died on Monday, September 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine (Noto) Mardino; children, Mary Braymiller and Theresa Mardino; siblings, Angie (Monroe) Sherman, and Robert (Darlene), Richard (Sarah), Samuel (late Ann), Peter (late Viola), Neil (Shirley) and James (Anita) Mardino; grandchildren, John James, Kenneth, Christina and Brian Braymiller; and sisters-in-law, Lila and Lenore Mardino.

He was predeceased by his siblings, John (Madeline), Alphonso and Anthony Mardino.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Karl Dragowski

Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family for Karl Jakob “Dancin’ Karl” Dragowski, 63, of Angola, who died on Wednesday, September 12, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Kathy Dragowski; children, Shawn (Heather) and Scott Dragowski; sister, Monika (Benjamin) Boyd; grandchildren, Makayla and Courtney Dragowski; and niece, Tina Marie Boyd.

Mr. Dragowski enjoyed the beach and dancing. He loved his grandchildren, lived for his family and was always there to lend a hand.

Arrangements were made through the Addison Funeral Home.

David Hawkins

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday (Sept. 19) from St. Bernadette’s Church in Orchard Park for David Hawkins, 58, of Boston, formerly of North Collins, who died on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Kathleen (Brehm) Hawkins; children, David Jr. (Jessica) and Jillian (Josh Krencik) Hawkins; siblings, Robert, Larry (Patricia) and Cheryl Hawkins, Yvonne Martin and Phyllis (Rick) Kron; grandchildren, Jacob and Abigail; and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his sister, Penny Thomas.

Memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Karl Troidl

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Wednesday (Sept. 19) from Holy Spirit Church for Karl A. Troidl, 81, of North Collins, who died on Thursday, September 13, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Stephenson) Troidl; children, Anna (Steven) Conklin, Patti Lipowicz and Karl and Robert (Deb) Troidl; siblings, Anna Spicola, Eva Stark and Joseph and Mary Ann Troidl; grandchildren, Alexi, Reed, Joey, Kelsey, Kylie, Kristen, Kelly, Tyler, Nicole, Shari and Diana; and great-grandson, Jeremy.

He was predeceased by his brothers, Anton and Franz Troidl.

Mr. Troidl was a Korean War veteran.

Arrangements were made through the Wentland Funeral Home.

Donald Smith

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Sept. 20 at 9:30 a.m. from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Donald F. Smith, of Hamburg, who died on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Debra (Montanari) Smith; children, Amy and Jonathan Smith; mother, Eleanor Smith; two brothers and four sisters.

He was predeceased by his father, Donald A. Smith.

Mr. Smith had a business that served Hamburg and the surrounding areas.

Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Amanda Nuding

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday (Sept. 18) from SS. Peter and Paul Church for Amanda E. Nuding, of Hamburg, who died on Saturday, September 15, 2012.

She is survived by her parents, Theodore G. and Annette E. (O’Scier) Nuding; siblings, Robert and Emily Nuding; paternal grandparents, Robert and Patricia Nuding; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

She was predeceased by her maternal grandparents, Frank and Mary O’Scier.

She was entombed in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Lombardo Funeral Home.

Violet Hooper

Funeral services were held on Friday (Sept. 14) from the Addison Funeral Home for Violet “Faye” Hooper, 88, of Brant, who died on Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Pat Bailey and Tom (Sue), Andy and Judy Hooper; 52 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Thomas F. Hooper; children, Sara, David (Gretel), Bob, Paul (Anne Marie) and Debbie Hooper; and siblings, Gary, Paris and Gail Short.

Mrs. Hooper was a retired employee of Great Lakes Color Printing.

She was an avid Buffalo Bills football fan.

She was interred in Brant Cemetery.

Charlet Rix

Private services will be held for Charlet I. (Jordan) Rix of Hamburg, who died on Friday, September 14, 2012.

She is survived by her siblings, Delbert, Charles and Millard Jordan; and nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 10 brothers and sisters.

Mrs. Rix was the proprietor of Jingle End Inn in Hamburg.

Arrangements were made through Loomis, Offers and Loomis Funeral Home.
