Salvatore Amarante

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Nov. 5) from Blessed John Paul II Church for Salvatore Amarante, of Lake View, who died on Thursday, November 1, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Etta (Alessi) Amarante; children, Susan (Tom) Kruse, Barbara (late Tom) O’Connor, Michael (Karen) and Russell (Charlene) Amarante; grandchildren, Barbara (Flynn), Molly, Michael Jr., Paul (Dantonio, David, Stacie, Melissa, Russell Jr. and Samantha and nine great-grandchildren.

Mr. Amarante was predeceased by his parents, Salvatore and Maria (Dambrosia) Amarante.

He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He worked for 25 yeas as a machinist for Bethlehem Steel, then became president and chief grievance officer for Local 2602. He retired in 1987 as an international union representative for USWA Local No. 4.

Mr. Amarante and his wife were members of the Hamburg Senior Golf League and the Hamburg Senior Bowling League.

He enjoyed bingo and was an avid pinochle player for over 70 years.

He was interred at Lakeside Cemetery.

Arrangements were made by Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Rita A. Demerly

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday (Nov. 12) from SS. Peter and Paul Church for Rita A. (Hagelin) Demerly, 81, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Donna (John) Gordon, Daniel and Michael (Christine) Cooper and grandchildren, Jacob, Jordan and Joseph Cooper.

Mrs. Demerly was predeceased by her husbands, Frederick Cooper and Neil Demerly and siblings, Howard (Rita) Hagelin and Irene VanHorn.

She worked for 15 years as a police dispatcher in the Village of Hamburg before her retirement.

Mrs. Demerly was a member of Hamburg High Schools 49-ers. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching in her backyard in Hamburg and at her winter residence in Florida.

Memorials may be made to Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department.

Final resting place is Hillcrest Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home.

Joseph J. Constable

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Wednesday (Nov. 14) from Our Mother of Good Counsel Church for Joseph J. Constable, of Blasdell, who died on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle L. (Keller) Constable; children, Karen (William) Baker, Stephen and Kenneth (Therese) Constable; grandchildren, Stephen, Brian, Elizabeth, Rosalie and Maria; great-grandchildren, Austin and Matthew; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Constable was predeceased by his siblings, Loretta (late Anthony) Plavney, Therese (late Robert) Edwards and Dominic (late Doris) Constable.

Interment is in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Wesley F. Hill

Funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family for Wesley F. Hill, 82, of Angola, who died on Saturday, November 10, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (LaPaglia) Hill; children, Cindy (Stephen) Billiar and Leonard (Kate) Hill; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Mr. Hill was predeceased by his son, Wesley Hill Jr. and many brothers and sisters.

Memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Catherine Gerbracht

Funeral services were held Tuesday (Nov. 13) from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home for Catherine “Jane” (Sirface) Gerbracht, 80, of Hamburg, who died on Thursday, November 8, 2012.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Gerald Gerbracht; children, David (Ann Marie) and Nancy (Sharon); brother, Peter (Marilyn) Sirface and grandchildren, Sarah and Jerry.

Mrs. Gerbracht was predeceased by her brother, Alan Sirface.

Memorials may be made to the Hamburg United Methodist Church or Hospice Buffalo, Inc.

Interment is at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Herbert R. Dils

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday (Nov. 13) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Herbert R. Dils, of Hamburg, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Klos) Dils; sons, Christopher (Maribeth) and Kevin (Kim) Dils; sisters, Ozella (late Clinton) Caldwell and Donna (late Frank) Eschberger; grandchildren, Nicholas, Briar, Ryan, Carter, Samantha and Carlene; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Dils was predeceased by his parents, William and Ozella Dils and siblings, Shirley (late Norman) Dennies, Audrey (James) Schuster, William (Agnes), Donald (late Dorothy), Carl (Faye), Al (Catherine) and Douglas (late Cindy) Dils.

Donald N. Rogenmoser

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Saturday (Nov. 10) from St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for Donald N. Rogenmoser, 76, of Angola who died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Edith E. (Henderson) Rogenmoser; children, Debra (Spencer) Hirotsu, Donald Jr. (Dolores), Sharon, Elizabeth, Richard and Daniel Rogenmoser; siblings, Shirley Perfitti and Robert (Wanda) Rogenmoser and seven grandchildren.

Mr. Rogenmoser was an administrator for many years with the Loyal Order of the Moose, Angola Lodge and a retired school bus driver with the Lake Shore Central School District.

Sandra E. Less

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Thursday (Nov. 8) from SS. Peter and Paul Church for Sandra E. (Srozyk) Less, of Hamburg, who died on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

She is survived by her sons, David (Rhonda) and John III (Eileen) Less; brother, Richard Stark; grandchildren, Joanne, Jessica, John IV, Jason, Christina and Joshua; nieces and nephews.

Robert C. Baumea

A memorial services will be held at a future date in St. Anthony’s R.C. Church for Robert C. Baumea, 71, of Farnham, who died on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, SantaMarie (Lauricella) Baumea; children, William Baumea, Mary Leigh Kingston and Marc Balistrieri; siblings, Janice Davies, Wayne and Michael Baumea and six grandchildren.

Mr. Baumea was predeceased by his brother Gerald Baumea.

Interment service will be held in Adrian, Mich.

Charles A. Minich

A Mass of Christina Burial was held on Monday (Nov. 12) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for Charles A. Minich, of Blasdell, who died on Thursday, November 8, 2012.

He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Patricia (McGuire) Minich; children, Catherine (Frank) Maser, Charles, Timothy, Mary and Valerie (Jeffrey) Reed; siblings, Mary (Horace) Lazarony, Margaret (late Robert) Horvath, Dorothy (Daniel) Losardo, Shirley Losel, Eugene and Edward (Lucille) Minich; grandchildren, Christopher, Jennifer and Jamie Maser and Charles, Daniel and Shaun Minich; brother-in-law, Michael (Mary) McGuire and many nieces and nephews.

Mr. Minich was predeceased by his parents, Edward and Helen Minich.

Interment is in Lakeside Memorial Cemetery.

William C. Smith

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Monday, (Nov. 12) from St. Francis of Assisi Church for William C. Smith, of Orchard Park, who died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

He is survived by his wife Sally (Wilson) Smith; daughter, Brenda (Christopher) Wilde; siblings, Thomas (Carole) Smith and Valerie (John) Wozniak: grandchildren, George Jr., Caitlin and Ian; nieces and nephews.

Mr. Smith was predeceased by his brother, Gary (Cindy) Strobel.

Robert E. Gilham

A memorial service was held on Sunday (Nov. 11) from First Baptist Church of Hamburg for Robert Ernest Gilham, 69, of Hamburg, who died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

He is survived by his son, Robert Duncan (Darcy) Gilham and grandchildren, Kaelyn Brooke, Breanne Alyssa and Duncan Robert Gilham.

Mr. Gilham was the owner of Robert Gilham Associates Limited. He was a member of Buffalo Shipmasters Association.

Interment services will be held in Taylorsville, N.C.

Erin Weishaar

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17 from JP’S Pub, 1986 Lakeview Road for Erin Weishaar, 30, of Palm Coast, Fla., formerly of Lake View, who died on Sunday, September 23, 2012.

She is survived by her daughter, Taylor; father, Wayne (Dorie) Weishaar; mother, Mary (Dave Hawkins) Krakowski; brother, Shawn; her fiance, Tom Barneski; his sons, Sabastian, Montgomery and Alex; many loving family members and friends.

Ms. Weishaar enjoyed needlecraft, gardening and loved to fish. She was involved with the Cancer Relay For Life in Florida. What she enjoyed most was spending time with her family and friends.

Barbara J. Brush

Funeral services were held on Monday (Nov. 5) from Loomis, Offers & Loomis, Inc., Hamburg Chapel, for Barbara J. (Pender) Wilson Brush, of Hamburg, who died on Saturday, November 3, 2012.

She is survived by her children, James G. and Eileen M. Wilson; sister, Patricia A. Hetzinger; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Brush was predeceased by her husbands, Wakefield J. Brush and James A. Wilson.

Memorial services for Richard J. and Mary Margaret Johnson, and Donald Paolercio at SS. Peter & Paul Cemetery on Nov. 17.

A joint memorial graveside service will be at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, at SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery for Richard J. and Mary Margaret Johnson and Donald Paolercio, all of Hamburg.

Richard J. Johnson, 95, of Hamburg died on February 11, 2012 and Mary Margaret Johnson, 86, of Hamburg died on October 4, 2011.

They are survived by children, Denise Johnson, John Johnson, Robert (Nan) and Gregory (late Lee) Kogler and two additional daughters; grandchildren, Sherry, Robbie, Tanya, Romon, Gabe and Gregory Jr., siblings and additional family members.

Mr. Johnson was a WWII U.S. Marine and was a member of the Hamburg American Legion Post 527 and VFW Post 1419.

Donald Paolercio, 61, of Hamburg, died on May 7, 2012.

He is survived by his wife, Rhonda Paolercio and close friend, Denise Johnson.

Mr. Paolercio was retired from the Erie County Medical Center. He loved to watch to football.

Frederick B. Sawers

A brunch will be held at noon on Sunday, Nov. 18 at J&M’s West End Inn, Hamburg, to honor Frederick B. Sawers, 92, of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, November 6, 2012.

He is survived by his sons, Daniel (Sharon), Timothy (Lada) and John Sawers; brother, Kenneth (Mary) Sawers; grandchildren, Michael, Patrick, Frank, Jasmine, Alexandra and Bailey; great-granddaughter, Lily; numerous loving friends, nieces and nephews.

Mr. Sawers was predeceased by his wife, Alida (Fagnan) Sawers and brother Edward (Florence) Sawers.

He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps from 1943-1945. and served as a medic in the European Theater,

Mr. Sawers retired as an executive with W&F Manufacturing in 1969 and became editor and publisher of WNY Spares & Strikes, until his retirement in 1982.

He was a charter member of the Hamburg Historical Society and was devoted to that organization in his later years.

Memorials may be made to the Hamburg Historical Society.

Sylvia T. St-Pierre

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday (Nov. 13) from SS. Peter and Paul Church for Sylvia T. (Barth) St-Pierre, of Hamburg, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

She is survived by her daughters, Arlen (Michael) Biehler and Linda (Richard) Shea; sister Elaine Turgeon; grandchildren, Steven, Kevin and Megan; nieces and nephews.

Mrs. St-Pierre was predeceased by her husband, Robert G. St-Pierre and siblings, Arlene and Paul (late Diane) Barth.

She was a life-long resident in the area, growing up in Woodlawn.

For over 25 years Mrs. St-Pierre was the co-owner of Pierre’s Bicycle Shop in Hamburg.

She was an avid skier and bicyclist and looked forward to her annual trip to Hudson, Fla., where she and her husband were enthusiastic snowbirds at their community.

Mrs. St-Pierre was active in the SS. Peter and Paul Church community with the wedding ministry and the annual mission every fall.

She was devoted to her grandchildren and cherished her time with them, watching them grow.

Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

William J. Hymes III

A private burial was held for William J. Hymes, III, of Angola, former of Buffalo, who died on Wednesday, November 7, 2012.

He is survived by his father William J. Hymes, Jr.; brother, Michael M. (Jean) Hymes; nephews, Michael M. Jr. and Corey James Hymes and many cousins.

Mr. Hymes was predeceased by his mother, Joan Murphy Hymes and brother, Peter A. Hymes.

He was a proud member of the Buffalo Teachers Federation and Local 200 of the S.E.I.U. Ticket Takers, Ticket Sellers, Doormen and Ushers.

Memorials may be made to Roswell Park.

Gertrude Behm

A Mass of Christian Burial was held from Holy Spirit Church on Tuesday (Nov. 13) for Gertrude (Dominiak) Behm, 94, of Kenmore, Hamburg and Arcade, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

She is survived by her children, Carol (John Ivancie) Tremblett-Busalachi, Barbara and Michael (Maria) Behm; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grand-children; and a loving extended family, and Diann Clifford and family.

Mrs. Behm was predeceased by her husband, Kermit Behm; children Phyllis King and Paul Behm; four sisters and two brothers.

Wesley John Sr.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday (Nov. 13) from Wentland Funeral Home for Wesley John, Sr., 53, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Jessica Powless, Shawn and Brandon Jonas and Sandra, Wanita, Wesley Jr., Nicole and Badger John; siblings, Jennie Snyder, Teresa Longboat and Curtis, William III, Warren and Wanda John, and companion and best friend, Julie Lay.

Mr. John was predeceased by his sister, Sandra John.

Anthony McGowan

A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Tuesday (Nov. 13) from Blessed John Paul II Parish for Anthony “Andy” Francis “Fran” “Mac” McGowan, 97, of Ithaca and Lake View, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Charles (Lori), Robert (Pat) and Nancy (Dan Griffin) McGowan; grandchildren, Christian, Kelsi, Jennifer, Chris, Julie, Kevin and Michael; great-grandchildren, Chase, Dominic, Olivia, Jacob, Gage, Colby and Logan; best friend, Paul Johnson; many nieces and nephews.

Mr. McGowan was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Ebel) McGowan; sisters, May McGowan Foster, Jewell McGowan Heimerl and Alice McGowan; daughter-in-law, Leslie McGowan and granddaughters, Heather and Amanda.

Mr. McGowan was born on April 11, 1915 at Days Creek, Ore. to the late Charles Gilpatrick and Kathryn (Daul) McGowan and was raised in Buffalo, in the Riverside neighborhood.

He graduated from Riverside High School in 1933 and began his working career, which lasted until his retirement at age 70.

He worked as a quality control supervisor of metal products at American Radiator, Curtis Wright Aviation, Twin Coach, Marathon Metal Products and Duriron, in Angola.

Mr. McGowan was proud of his work with Curtis Wright Aviation during World War II.

He married Mary Ebel, of Lake View on Oct. 5, 1946 and they celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary in 2009.

Mr. McGowan was proud of his long association with the Boy Scouts of America. He joined Troop 133 at the age of 12, then joined Troop 80 in Black Rock. He became an assistant Scoutmaster and continued in Scouting in Cortland County, when he lived and worked in Marathon, N.Y. He was the recipient of the prestigious Silver Beaver Award for his service to the Boy Scouts of America.

Mr. McGowan was a grand knight and life member of the Knights of Columbus; was a member of the Men’s Garden Club in Hamburg and the Armor Senior Citizen’s Group.

He was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church (Blessed John Paul II Parish) in Lake View and for the past three years attended Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca, while living with his daughter.

Memorials may be made to a local food pantry.

Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery.

John W. Schmeh

Funeral services were held at the convenience of the family for John W. Schmeh, 89, of Silver Creek, formerly of Angola, who died on Friday, November 9, 2012.

He is survived by his children, Pam (Loran) Circle, John (Betty), Jim (Deb) and David (Lisa) Schmeh; grandchildren, Becky Thompson, Neil Ovit, Katie and Johnny Joe Schmeh and great-grandchildren, Audrey, Leah, Rachael Starr and Angel.

Mr. Schmeh was predeceased by his wife, Helen Schmeh.

Arrangements were made through Addison Funeral Home.
