Josephine Catalano

Josephine (nee Fiaschetti) Catalano, 91, of North Collins died July 15.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Catalano. Mother of Jackie Connolly and Richard THE SU. Survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sister of Marie Maglio and the late Leonard Fiaschetti.

Arrangements by the Wentland Funeral Home, located at 10634 Main St. in North Collins. A funeral service was held at Holy Spirit Church in North Collins.

Rose Marie DeMaria
Rose Marie (nee Catalano) DeMaria, 78, of Brant died July 16.

She was the Brant town clerk for 28 years and was a member of the Erie County Town Clerks Association, the Brant Volunteer Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary, Brant Senior Citizens, Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church and the Brant-Farnham Democratic Club and was a recent inductee to the town of Brant wall of fame.

She was the wife of the late John “Jack” DeMaria; mother of Kristine (Gary) Thomann, Joseph (Gina) DeMaria and the late Deborah DeMaria; brother of the late John Catalano; grandmother of Kamila, Jonathan and Jillian; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Addison Funeral Home Inc., located at 262 Main St. in Angola. A funeral service was held at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church of Farnham, N.Y.

Rosemary Esty

Rosemary (nee Guile) Esty of Derby died July 14.

She was the wife of the late Herald Esty Jr. Mother of Stosie (James) Sanderson, Elizabeth (William) Franklin, Patricia (Thomas) Symons and John Esty. Grandmother of seven and great-grandmother of eight.

A private funeral service will be held. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice Buffalo Inc., PO Box 590, Buffalo, NY 14240.

Leonard Hojsan
Leonard A. Hojsan of Hamburg died July 17.

He was an Army veteran who fought in World War II.

He was the husband of Margaret (nee Bernardi) Hojsan; father of Cassandra “Sandy” (Robert) Knight and Deborah “Debbie” (Terrance) Dau; grandfather of Joshua (Karyn) Yetman and Brandon Bialy; great-grandfather of Jerry Miller; brother of Chester Hojsan and Jean Mingen; predeceased by brothers and sisters; also survived by step-grandchildren, step-great-grandchildren, in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held from the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home’s Hamburg Chapel, located at 5453 Southwestern Blvd., where a funeral was also held. Entombment in Holy Cross Cemetery Mausoleum.

Margaret Hojsan
Margaret (nee Bernardi) Hojsan of Hamburg died July 20.

She was the wife of the late Leonard Hojsan. Mother of Cassandra “Sandy” (Robert) Knight and Deborah “Debbie” (Terrance) Daul. Grandmother of Joshua (Karyn) Yetman and Brandon Bialy. Great-grandmother of Jerry Miller. Sister of Anna (late Walter) Juda, Angeline (late Joseph) Dziomba, Daniel (Irene) Bernardi, Mary (Robert) Szczygiel, Helen (late Joseph) Patrick, Dolores (late Michael) Rooth and the late Dominic (late Irene) Bernardi; also survived by step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, in-laws and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. on Sunday, July 28 at the Hamburg Chapel in the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home Inc., located at 5453 Southwestern Blvd. A funeral service will be held at 9 a.m. on July 29 for both Hojsan and her late husband Leonard.

Harry Keller
Harry Keller

Harry A. Keller of Lake View died July 17.

He worked at the Ford Plant.

He was the husband of Antonina (nee Akromas) Keller.

Father of Harry (Lisa), Mary (James) Bishop and Billie Jo Keller; grandfather of Bernard, Antonina, Lee Anna, Makayla, Jewelia and the late Moriah; brother of Marlin (Rosalie), Kenneth (Joanne), Ward (Marilyn) Elinor (late Joseph) Schottmiller, Donna (Benjamin) Bauer, Thelma (late Gary) Upper and the late Beverly Reap, Helen Grieco, Sharon Prince, Robert and Richard Keller; son of the late Harry and Edna Keller; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held at the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home Inc., located at 4199 Lake Shore Road in Hamburg. A funeral took place at Blessed John Paul II Parish. Burial was in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.

Janet Ketelsen
Janet F. Ketelsen of Hamburg died on July 14.

She is survived by her husband of 68 years, Richard Ketelsen; children Linda (William) Schwartz, David (Teresa) Ketelsen and Rachel (Eric “Rick”) Hackett; grandchildren Jennifer (Mark) Kaufman, Amy (Charles) McCooey, Linda Burgess, Matthew Ketelsen and Colin Papendick; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was predeceased by sister Jean Wayland.

Ketelson was a sister in the Hamburg Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses.

A memorial service will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 23 at Michael’s Banquet Facility.

Mildred Kremblas
Mildred (nee Lampke) Kremblas, 85, died July 19.

She was a homemaker.

She was the wife of the late Joseph Kremblas; mother of Dennis (Judy), Sharon (Richard) Hazard, Joseph and Cynthia (Christopher) Albano; also survived by eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Virginia Edson

Virginia M. (nee Joyce) Edson, 89, of Blasdell died July 18.

She was a parishioner at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker.

She was the wife of the late James Edson; mother of James (Millie) and John Edson; grandmother of James (Beth), Erik (Kasey), Kevin (Colette), Robert, Amy and Ryan Edson; great-grandmother of eight; sister of the late Blanche O’Meara, Ruth Zuk, Sister Mary Blanche RSM, Rita Harris, Dolores Paul, Richard Joyce and William Joyce; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A Mass of Christian burial was held on July 22 at Our Mother of Good Counsel Church, located at 3688 South Park Ave. in Blasdell. Interment in SS. Peter and Paul Cemetery.

Beverly Milosich
Beverly J. (nee Gunning) Milosich of Orchard Park died July 15.

She was the wife of Samuel Milosich; mother of Michael Held, Pamela Held, Lynn Held, Michelle (John Olszowy) Jarosz and David (Ellen) Held; grandmother of 11 and great-grandmother of 14; predeceased by four brothers and four sisters.

Visitation was held at the Blasdell/Lackawanna Chapel, John J. Kaczor Funeral Home Inc., located at 3450 South Park Ave. A funeral was held at the same location. Burial in Hillcrest Cemeter.

Harry Monroe
Harry A. Monroe, 66, of Westfield, formerly of Eden, died on May 21.

He is survived by his wife, Claudia (nee Gonser) Monroe; children, Karlyn Monroe and Simon Monroe IV; sister-in-law Dolores (nee Gruppa) Monroe and many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Simon and Myrtle (nee Simpson) Monroe and a brother, Simon “Ike” Monroe Jr.

Monroe was born on April 26, 1947 in Westfield. He married his wife on April 26, 1974 in Hamburg.

He served in the United States Army, during the Vietnam War. He worked as a ground man/truck driver and welder for the IBEW Local Union No. 1249 for 16 years. He later returned to school and graduated from Jamestown Community College with an Associate of Science degree in 1993. He researched therapeutic horseback riding and started a program in Westfield.

Along with his wife and friends, he founded Centaur Stride Therapeutic Riding Center in 1991. He also volunteered for many years as the director of facility and maintenance.

He started his own trucking business in 1998. He later worked for the New York State Department of Transportation, as a highway maintenance worker. He retired in 2010.

He spent time outside, hunted and field dog trained with his Chesapeake Bay retrievers.

A funeral service was held at the Mason Funeral Home on May 28. Memorials may be made to benefit Centaur Stride Inc., PO Box 174, Westfield, NY 14787. Donations are tax-deductible. Arrangements were by the Mason Funeral Home.

Agnes Moslow
Agnes A. (nee Kirisits) Moslow, 91, died July 19.

She retired from the Buffalo Psychiatric Center as a clothing clerk.

Mother of Marilyn Bauer, Jack (Barbara) Moslow and Joan Moslow; grandmother of Mark (Tracy) Bauer, Grendel McTigert, Bryn and Alec Moslow; great-grandmother of Ashley and Jacob Bauer; pre-deceased by Mary Kirisits, Theresa Denz, John and Frank Kirisits, Elizabeth Kirisits and Joan Shock; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24 from the Hamburg Chapel at John J. Kaczor Funeral Home Inc., located at 5453 Southwestern Blvd. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. on July 25 from St. Bernadette’s Church, located at 5870 South Abbott Road in Orchard Park. Assemble at the church.

David Morris
David H. Morris, 72, of Gowanda died July 20.

He was the husband of Margitta (nee Bismann) Morris. Father of Dawn (Donald) Congdon and David Scott (Amy Elizabeth) Morris. Grandfather of eight grandchildren and great-grandfather of two. Brother of Sarah Ebert, George Franklin Morris II, “Fritz” Daniel Morris and Michael Morris.

A memorial service was held on July 23 from The First Baptist Church of Eden. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery of Eden.

Judith Mortellaro
Judith A. (nee Henry) Mortellaro died July 19.

Mother of Denise (Bernie) Hults, William McIntyre, JoAnn Warner and Robert McIntyre. Daughter of the late William and Mary Ann Henry. Sister of William (Marjorie) Henry and David (Janet) Henry; also survived by several nieces, nephews and grandchildren.

Nancy (nee Calandra) Nicotra of Lake View died July 8.

She was the wife of Angelo Nicotra; mother of Frank (Patricia) and Michael (Susan) Nicotra; grandmother of Anthony, James, Alan and Amy; sister of Concetta (late David) Battistoni and the late Michael, Peter, Joseph, Dominic, Rocco, Paul Calandra and Anna Kriedman; also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral was held from the Latimore-Schiavone Funeral Home Inc., located at 8434 North Main St. in Angola. A Mass of Christian burial was held from Blessed John Paul the II Church of Lake View.

Mary Ann Reese
Mary Ann (nee Rancka) Reese, 77, of Hamburg, died on July 16.

She is survived by her children, Julie (Wayne) Covert and Jay Reese, and grandchildren, Kyle and Alicia Norberg. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Reese, three sisters and four brothers.

Reese was a member of Athol Springs Senior Social Club. She was also a homemaker.

A memorial service was held at the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Garry Noel
Garry D. Noel, 60, of Angola died July 18 at home.

Survived by Fran Allan; father of Kasey (Matthew) Frazier; son of Shirley and the late Bernard Noel; brother of Brenda (Roger) Noel and Michael (Debi) Noel; grandfather of Morgan and Asher Frazier and Noel Merced. Also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service was held on July 20 in the Angola Wesleyan Church, located at 636 Herr Road in Angola.

Henry Swiader
A memorial service for Henry Swiader of Angola was held on July 13 at Forest Avenue Cemetery in Angola.

He was a musician.

Swiader died Nov. 19 at the age of 60, after a battle with cancer. He was the life partner of Barbara Lynn Hanner. Son of Gerda and the late John Swiader. Brother of Bernard (Anna) Swiader. Uncle of Daniel, Eric and Andrew Swiader.

Lewis Weller

Lewis E. Weller of Lake View died July 20.

He raised and bred Labrador retrievers and hunted and drag raced.

He was the husband of Joanne (nee Marciszewski) Weller; father of Robert (Tara) Weller and Ashley (Alex Dorofy) Weller; grandfather of Zachary and Isabelle; son of the late Earl and Ellen Weller; brother of Joanne (late Eugene) Salisbury; brother-in-law of David (Lori) Marciszewski and Diane (David) Robinson; also survived by nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held on July 22 and 23 at the Hamburg Chapel in the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home, located at 5453 Southwestern Blvd.

A Mass of Christian burial will be offered at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24 from Blessed John Paul II Parish, located at 2052 Lakeview Road in Lake View. Assemble at the church. Interment will follow in St. Vincent’s Cemetery.
