She worked at various farms, including Floyd Myers, Arthur Horton and Millers Farm Market. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hamburg.
She was the wife of Kenneth Both; mother of Roy Both and Cindy (Leon) Beiler; sister of Betty Kirsch, William (Marge) and the late Fred (Elizabeth) Borchert; grandmother of Heather, Holly and Nathan Beiler.

Jessie (nee Nobbs) Congdon, 95, of Leesburg, Fla., formerly of North Collins and Eden, died Sept. 23.
She was born in Eden on Dec. 21, 1917. She was a graduate of Eden Central School and Fredonia State Normal School. She taught third grade at Eden Central School.
On her parents 48th wedding anniversary, June 13, 1948, she married Merton Congdon.
She was the daughter of the late Charles and Nina (nee Barney) Nobbs; stepmother of Betty Ewing-Price; sister of the late Silas Nobbs, Edith Kildoo, Robert Nobbs and Howard Nobbs; aunt of four.
A memorial visitation will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. on Oct. 16 at the Wentland Funeral Home, located at 10634 Main St. in North Collins. A memorial service will follow, at 5.

Clara (nee Quinlan) Gordon of Hamburg died Oct. 1, one week before her 80th birthday.
She worked at the former Loop Restaurant, a family-owned business.
She was a hostess at the former Lake View Hotel and was a telephone operator for New York Telephone.
She was the wife of the late Chester Gordon, John Stachera and Raymond Emerson; mother of Raymond (Kris) Emerson, Michael Stachera, Lori Imburgia and Valerie (James) Ferris; stepmother of Richard (Jackie) Gordon, Sandra (Albert) Luss, Deborah (Marvin) Carter and Peter (Barbara) Solovey; sister of Judy Koepka, Patricia Alvarez, John (Becky) Quinlan and the late Antonina “Honey” Brem; also survived by 12 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held Oct. 5 from the Donald M. Demmerley Funeral Home, located at 21 Pierce Ave. in Hamburg, and Saints Peter & Paul Church.

He was a jazz musician and a WBFO radio host and he worked sales for Kodak and the former Marine Midland Bank of Buffalo.
He was the husband of Julianne (nee Jones); father of Graham (Natalie), Elizabeth (Kieran) and the late Theodore; grandfather of Devon, Jackson, Graham, Evelyn and William.

Venon Isaac Jr., 32, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation died Oct. 2.
He was born Dec. 2, 1980.
He was the father of Jaden Parker, Thunder Wayne, Maddox and Lydia Isaac; son of Patricia LeRoy and the late Vernon Isaac Sr.; brother of David, Roy, Amy, Denise, Sara Isaac, Theresa Kennedy and the late Adam Isaac and Kiawona Ashcroft; also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Calling hours were held at the home of Denise Isaac on the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation. A funeral service was held Oct. 5 from the Longhouse at the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation.

T. James Snyder, 84, formerly of Hamburg, died Sept. 29 after a battle with multiple myeloma.
He was a life member of the Knights of Columbus and was involved with the Bishop’s Committee of the Laity and the Korean War Veterans Association.
He was the husband of Rita (Duggan Barcia); father of Thomas James Jr. (Carol), Charles (Vicky), Joseph, Kenneth (Sherry) and Catherine (Paul); stepfather of Regina (Harry), Sharon and (Claude) and Jeff; brother of Gerald, Joan (Dutt) and the late Eileen (Murray); also survived by many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, Mahlon and Catherine (nee Kegelmeyer) and first wife Mary (nee Schreiber).
A funeral Mass will be held at Saint Bernadette’s Roman Catholic Church of Orchard Park at 10 a.m. on Oct. 12. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Christine “Tienie” (nee Culver) Sroda of Hamburg died Oct. 4 at her daughter’s residence, after a battle with cancer.
She was born in Woodlawn on Sept. 29, 1946 to Roy and Alice Culver.
She was the wife of the late Thomas. Mother of Timothy McNulty of Washington; Sharon McNulty Snow of Virginia Beach, Va.; Karin McNulty Cauffman of South Carolina; Jenny Carrig (Ben) of Hamburg and Wendy Carrig (Scott) of Amherst. Grandmother of Garrett Schenfield, Winter, Sage and Isabelle Mumbach. Sister of Patrick (Barbara) and Calvin (Joy) Culver of Hamburg; Lester (Rhonda) Culver of Bowling Green, Ky.; Richard (Eileen) Culver of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; Sue (Patrick) Counter of Kennedy, N.Y. and the late Roy, Winifred Winslow and Alice Culver. She was predeceased by her parents and nephews, Patrick and Owen Culver. Friend of Pat (Jack) Reitz.

Joyce (nee Pfeffer) Steltenpohl, 90, of Titusville, Fla., formerly of Buffalo and Eden, died Sept. 7 in Orlando, Fla., following surgery.
She was born in North Boston; she graduated from Hamburg High School and the Buffalo State Teachers College with a degree in education and home economics.
She was a member of Phi Upsilon Omicron and Pi Lambda Theta honor societies. She taught home economics and science in Buffalo and Lockport, before becoming a home economics teacher at Pine Hill High School in Cheektowaga. She earned master’s degrees in education and guidance counseling from the State University of New York at Buffalo and was a guidance counselor at the Aurora Middle School in Lancaster.
She participated in the Buffalo State College, University at Buffalo and Merrill Palmer alumnae associations. She was a member of the former St John’s United Church of Christ (now Community Church) in Eden and the Wally Byman Caravan Club International.
She visited every United States state and Canadian province. She camped, golfed, sewed, crocheted and quilted.
She was the former wife of Harry Feucht, the late Bliss Emmett VanEvery, the late Konrod Groetsch and the late Robert Steltenpohl.
She was the mother of Harry VanEvery; sister of Caryl Pfeffer Persons; stepmother of James Steltenpohl, Eleanor (nee Groetsch) Williams, Jaclyn (nee Steltenpohl) Welch and Janet (nee Steltenpohl) Landers.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Oct. 19 at Saint John’s Community Church, located at 2871 E. Church St. in Eden.

Eugenia “Jean” Thiel, 95, formerly of Hamburg, Buffalo and North Collins, died Oct. 5 at Absolut Care at Three Rivers in Painted Post, N.Y.
She was born Nov. 3, 1917 in Depew to Stanislaw and Julia (nee Kania) Sobocinski.
She graduated from North Collins High School and Bryant and Stratton Business Institute. After her marriage to F. Louis Thiel of Langford, she lived in Hamburg, where she and her husband raised two sons. She was predeceased by her husband in 1974.
She was the mother of Frank (Patricia) Thiel of Painted Post and Robert (Alesia) Thiel of Memphis, Tenn.; grandmother of Frank (Susan) Thiel, V. and Karl (Heather) Thiel; great-grandmother of Zoe, Genevieve and Laurel Thiel, all of Austin, Texas. She was predeceased by three brothers.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Epiphany of Our Lord Church in Langford at the convenience of the family.

Grace (nee Maybee) Tallchief, 98, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, died Oct. 7.
In 2012, she was recognized by the Seneca Nation as the oldest living Seneca. She was a lifelong member of Faith Baptist Chapel.
She was the mother of Joyce Gates, Gail Sundown and the late Iris Tallchief; sister of the late Howard Maybee Sr., Alex, Lester Maybee and Ruth Bennett; also survived by 11 grandchildren, one great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandchildren.
