Irene L. Heeter

A Mass of Christian Burial was held from St. Bernadette Church on Friday (Feb. 1) for Irene L. (Burket) Heeter of Hamburg, who died on Tuesday, January 29, 2013.

She is survived by her children, Joyce Veshia, Angela Herzog and Oran (Anita), Lynn (Milagros) and Shawn (Laura) Heeter; sister, Della (John) Giles; 20 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Heeter was predeceased by her husband, Russell Heeter; son, Ben (AnnaMae) Heeter and siblings, Regina Hoover, Margaret Hansen, AnnaMae Salyards and Regis and John Burket.

Arrangements were made through the Lakeside Memorial Funeral Home.

Kadence Ruth Armstrong

Funeral services were held from W.S. Davis Funeral Home on Thursday (Jan. 31) for Kadence Ruth Armstrong, nine months, of Cuba, who died on Friday, January 25, 2013.

She is survived by her parents, Amy Metcalf and Joschua Armstrong; brothers, Jerry and Jayson Armstrong and grandparents, John Metcalf and Patricia (Olaf) Vos and Genevieve Cox.

Interment was in White Cemetery in Rushford.

Phyllis J. Shear

Funeral services will be held from Faith United Church of Christ on Saturday (Feb. 16) at 10:30 a.m. for Phyllis J. (Mesmer) Shear of Boston, who died on Monday, January 28, 2013.

She is survived by her husband, Frederick J. Shear; sons, Mark (Kathy) Shear and Kyle (Lee) Cool; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Faith United Church of Christ, 8651 Boston State Road, Boston, N.Y., 14025 or the North Boston Fire Co.

Arrangements were made through Loomis, Offers and Loomis, Hamburg Chapel.

Linda M. Monforte

Funeral services were held from St. James United Church of Christ on Wednesday (Feb. 6) for Linda M. (Lang) Monforte, of Hamburg, who died on Friday, February 1, 2013.

She is survived by her children, Deborah (John) Stock and Michael (Jolene) and Melissa Monforte; sister, Joyce (late Michael) Seymour; grandchildren, Jeremy, Allison, Chad and Chloe; nieces and nephew, Jennifer, Jeff, Heidi and Heather and companion, Daniel W. Buckley.

Mrs. Monforte was predeceased by her parents, Richard and Esther Lang and brother, R. Douglas (Ann) Lang.

Memorials may be made to Roswell Park Thoracic Research.

Godfrey Weiss

Funeral services were held from James W. Cannan Funeral Home on Monday (Jan. 14) for Godfrey “Greg” Weiss of Hamburg, who died on Thursday, January 10, 2013.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Susan (Menke) Weiss; children, Cheryl (Joseph) Logel and Cynthia and Stephen (Stephanie) Weiss; grandchildren, Abbey (Edward) Smith, Travis Weiss, Ryan Layton and Steven (Jill) and Amy Logel; great-grandchildren, Haleigh Smith, Audrey Logel and Christian Shaw and dog, Bailey.

Mr. Weiss was a graduate of Hamburg High School and attended Hartwick College. He was a U.S. Army veteran and former partner of Camp Road Auto Center. He was active in the antique/classic car circuit and enjoyed restoring, driving and discussing classic automobiles. He was a master mechanic and creative inventor, holding a patent for one of his designs for the forklift industry.

Memorials may be made to the Erie County SPCA, or the Buffalo VA Hospital.

Kenneth J. Donaldson

A graveside service will be held from Hillcrest Cemetery (section BT) on Friday (Feb. 8) at 11 a.m. for Kenneth J. Donaldson, of Blasdell, who died on Monday, February 4, 2013.

He is survived by his daughter, Joni Wittmeyer; sisters, June Pilon and Joan (Anthony) Weiss; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Mr. Donaldson was predeceased by his wife, Shirley (Christiana) Donaldson; son, Kenneth (Christine) Donaldson; brother, Harold Donaldson and one grandson.

He was a proud Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post No. 1419.

Arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Bernard G. Schmidt


Funeral services were held from Latimore-Schiavone Funeral Home on Tuesday (Feb. 5) for Bernard G. Schmidt, of the Cattaraugus Indian Reservation, who died on Friday, February 1, 2013.

He is survived by his children, Robert (Jill), Eric (Laurie), Earl (Catherine), Jeremiah, Alyssa Schmidt and Jason (Lisa) and Nathan Reigle; companion, Karla Button; eight grandchildren; a niece and nephews.

Mr. Schmidt was predeceased by his sister, Janet Snyder.

Robert J. Beck

A Mass of Christian Burial was held from St. Francis of Assisi Church on Monday (Feb. 4) for Robert J. “Robbie” Beck of Hamburg, who died on Wednesday, January 30, 2013.

He is survived by his parents, Ketih and Cyndi (Barrio) Beck; brothers, Edward, Jesse (Lindsay) and Michael Beck; grandmother, Frances Barrio; uncles and aunts, Joseph (Karen) Barrio, Lisa (Matthew) Lawrence and Pamela (Richard) Murawa and girlfriend, Aubrey Dudek.

Mr. Beck was predeceased by his grandparents, Edward Barrio and Edwin and Elaine Beck and uncle, Wayne (Patty) Beck.

Arrangements were made through the John J. Kaczor Funeral Home.

Edwin R. Czajka

Funeral services will be held from John J. Kaczor Funeral Home on Thursday (Feb. 7) at 10 a.m. for Edwin R. Czajka, of Blasdell, who died on Sunday, February 3, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy L. (Schultz) Czajka; sons, Curtis and Mark Czajka, brother, Dr. Stanley (Karen) Scott, DDS; aunt, Livia Czajka; a large family and many friends.

Mr. Czajka was predeceased by his parents, Stanley and Lydia Czajka and brother, Dennis (Darlene) Czajka.

Memorials may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, 135 Parkinson Ave., Staten Island, N.Y., 10305.

Inurnment will follow in Hillcrest Cemetery.

Deborah A. Gates


Word has been received of the death of Deborah A. Gates, 58, of Bayonet Pt., Fla., formerly of North Collins, who died on Tuesday, January 22, 2013.

She is survived by her mother, Shirley A. (Bettinger) Gates; brothers, Henry, James (Val), Brain (Kathy) and Glen and several nieces and nephews.

Ms. Gates was predeceased by her father, James J. Gates.

She was born in Gowanda, and graduated from North Collins Central School. After graduation, she served four years in the U.S. Army, during which time she attended to Mamie Eisenhower. After traveling around the country, she settled in Florida.

Ms. Gates will be buried in a family plot in Grace Memorial Garden in Hudson, Fla.

Donald E. Murray

A Mass of Christian Burial was held from St. Mary of the Lake Church on Saturday (Feb. 2) for Donald E. Murray of Angola, who died on Monday, January 28, 2013.

He is survived by his wife, Irma (Matteson) Murray; children, Cindy (Mike) Menard and Donald, Michael and Steven Murray; siblings, Rita (late Dick) Neth and John (Sally) and Joseph (Renee) Murray; grandchildren, Jordain, Jerred, Michael (Erica), Melissa, Mitchell, Danielle, Courtney and Michael; great-grandchildren, Lilllian and Raya; nieces and nephews and dear friend, Molly

Mr. Murray was predeceased by his brother, James (Kathy) Murray.

He loved to bowl, shoot pool and enjoyed classic cars, owning a 1975 Buick LeSabre.

Interment was in Lakeside Cemetery.

Arrangements were made through the Addison Funeral Home.
