Boston fire destroys barn
Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy James Flower responded to a report of a large barn fire at 9828 Boston State Road on Nov. 20.

The deputy said that, when he arrived, heavy smoke was emanating from the building and the barn was engulfed in fire.

Deputies closed Boston State Road between Fowlerville and Trevett Road. Numerous local fire companies responded, to extinguish the fire.

Detectives from the Erie County Sheriff’s Fire Investigation Unit were requested by the fire chief.

The fire remains under investigation.

Hamburg woman writes bad checks

An Evans individual told the Evans Police Department that Melissa O’Brien, 46, of the town of Hamburg had passed two bad checks in his business, with a total of $431, including returned check fees.

The victim had attempted to contact O’Brien, who refused to satisfy her debt.

The offender was charged with issuing a bad check and a criminal summons was requested from the Evans Town Court.

Car accident sends one to hospital
Erie County Sheriff’s Deputy Jeff Hicks responded to a report of a single car accident in North Collins on Nov. 23.

The vehicle was found to be on its side on Langford Road near Ketchum Road.

A female passenger in the car was transported to Lake Shore Hospital with a non-life-threatening head injury.

Hamburg woman arrested
Hamburg resident Jennifer McDonald, 37, was observed on the shoulder of State Route 219 in the town of West Seneca on Nov. 17.

New York State Police reported that McDonald was on the passenger side of her vehicle, looking for her Thruway toll ticket. The trooper interviewed the subject and found that she was intoxicated; two open cans of beer were in the vehicle’s center console.

McDonald was arrested and transported to the state police’s Buffalo station. A breath test revealed that her blood alcohol level was 0.16 percent.

The subject was charged with driving while intoxicated and will appear in the town of West Seneca Court on a later date, to answer the charges.

Ontario man arrested
Evans Patrolman Matthew Stonitsch observed a vehicle, driven by Filipe Pimentel, 35, of Binbrook, Ontario, fail to stop at a stop sign at the New York State Thruway exit at Eden Evans Center Road at 8:24 a.m. on Nov. 7.

A license check revealed that the subject had a suspended NYS license for failure to pay a fine. The offender was charged with failure to stop at a stop sign and aggravated, unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle third, and released on $300 bail.

Man arrested for trespass
An Orchard Meadows Drive resident called the Erie County Sheriff’s Office on Nov. 21, to report that an intoxicated male had entered her house.

Deputy Gary Mosier responded and was assisted by New York State Police and the Seneca Nation Marshall’s Security Force.

David Mercado, 38, of Buffalo was charged with criminal trespass second and criminal possession of a controlled substance third.

Mercado was arraigned in North Collins Court and remanded to the Erie County Holding Center, in lieu of $2,000 bail.
