Town of Hamburg recreation options during winter break

Town of Hamburg recreation officials will provide a full slate of indoor and outdoor recreational options for kids from tots to teens during the upcoming February break from school.

In addition to the public skate schedule announced previously, the Recreation Office is offering discounted Kissing Bridge all-day lift passes for sale for use Feb. 19-22 for $35 each (normally priced at $56) and two-hour Colden Tubing passes for $10 each (normally priced at $15). The sales will continue through Feb. 22, but tubing passes are redeemable for anytime during the remainder of the 2012-13 season. All discount tickets must be purchased at the Recreation Office on Lakeview Road. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There is no limit to the number of discount tickets that may be purchased and the special offer is open to all, not just town residents.

Those who prefer indoor activity may opt to attend the Winter Thaw 2013 at the HUB Gymnasium at the Hamburg Wesleyan Church on McKinley Parkway at Bayview Road. This is a supervised open gym program from Monday, Feb. 18 through Thursday, Feb. 21 from 9:15 a.m. to 1 p.m. with a variety of fun activities for boys and girls age 7 to 14. Participants must wear sneakers. The cost is $8 per day for town residents and $10 per day for nonresidents. Pre-registration is required. No food or beverages, with the exception of water are permitted in the gym. A water fountain is available on site.

The town Fitness Center will also be open all week (including Feb. 18) and teens age 13-18 are invited to check it out for free with parental permission by calling the Center at 627-4168. Hours are Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Saturday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Sunday 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. High school students can become youth members for a fee of $40 annually, but can add Sport Specific Training, a program offered regularly for aspiring athletes, for an additional fee. The annual membership fee includes a resident discount card and all classes, such as yoga, aerobics, zumba and karate. The Fitness Club staff is available to assist any member in getting started with an individualized exercise program. Information is posted on the town website or may be obtained by calling the Fitness Center.

Public Skates are scheduled at the Town Arena for Sunday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 3:50 p.m.; Tuesday, Feb. 19 and Wednesday, Feb. 20, from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.; Thursday, Feb. 21, from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.; Friday, Feb. 22, from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m. and 8 to 9:50 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 24 from 2 to 3:50 p.m. All participants 14 and younger must wear a helmet.
