Onlookers watch the ball drop at a past “Rock the Roundabout.”
The third annual “Rock the Roundabout” will be held on New Year’s Eve, with several new attractions for the whole family.
This year’s event will be held in the municipal parking lot, like last year, and will include the newly-added Dennis George Quiz Master Game Show, a second band and several new food vendors, said Mary Lou Moses, who coordinates the event every year.
“It’s the first time we’re having Dennis George,” she said. “He’s being fully sponsored by Loomis, Offers & Loomis.”
Word of Mouth will be playing again this year at one end of the parking lot, while Wide Right will be playing at the same time at the other end of the parking lot.
The Hamburg Volunteer Fire Department will be doing the ball drop again this year, which is vitally important to the event, Moses said.
“Without their help, we wouldn’t be able to have a ball drop,” she said.
Eighteen volunteers from a Participation in Government class at Hamburg High School will be on hand to help out, fulfilling their community service hours, Moses said.
Feedback from the community on the first two events has been great, Moses said. 5,000 people attended last year’s event, exceeding expectations. Part of the reason it’s proved to be popular is that it provided people with an opportunity to stay local.
“People walk,” she said. “Being able to stay at home is what they really like.”
“Rock the Roundabout” will start at 9 p.m. and go until 1 a.m. on New Year’s Day.
