On Dec. 27, Life Scout Tyler Hochadel of Troop 411 St. Mary on the Lake, became the youngest scout in Troop 411 history to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout. Hochadel is the son of Timothy and Charlene Hochadel of Hamburg. Hochadel started in scouts at the age of 7 and has progressed through the ranks to become an Eagle Scout, earning 39 merit badges and various special awards. He is also a brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow (boy scouting’s national honor society). For his required Eagle Scout project, Hochadel built owl nesting boxes at the Penn Dixie Paleontological and Outdoor Education Center. These boxes will help provide a natural habitat for local owls that have no existing shelter to care for their young. Hochadel is a sophomore at Frontier High School and maintains an honor roll average while being an active member of the varsity track team. He is also a member of the Lake Effect Track and Field Club. Hochadel is employed at Wegmans as a part-time front end employee.
