Town of Boston water district wording flows in new direction
To appease the federal government, the Boston Town Board has approved a rewritten proposal for a new water district.
Town Board members unanimously authorized the town to borrow $3,006,000 for Water District 3, a proposal they had already approved, in a special meeting Monday, Aug. 31.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture insisted that the board vote on a proposal written in different wording.
“They would not accept the resolution,” said Supervisor Richard Hawkins.
The resolution the board approved Monday was written in a different format than proposals the board usually votes on. Board members called a special meeting instead of waiting until the regular meeting scheduled two days later because they were anxious for the water line to be installed.
“The special meeting was to get it going,” said Brian Downey, town attorney.
After an upcoming preconstruction meeting, officials expect the project to start soon to deliver water to Old Lower East Hill, Burr and Liebler roads and portions of Cole, Lower East Hill and Wohlheuter roads.
Board members hope to receive a federal grant to help pay for the water line.
Officials had been waiting for Fairway Contracting in Orchard Park, the contractor the board chose, to finish a project in Amherst.
Thomas Lucas, an engineer with Nussbaumer and Clarke Engineers and Surveyors, told residents at the Aug. 5 board meeting that the installation should begin in a few weeks and be finished by the end of November.
In another matter during the special meeting, the board finalized details for the Town Hall’s handicapped-accessible rear entrance, where automatic doors have been installed.
