Sun Seven H.S. Bowling: Frontier closing in on two more titles
It again looks to be a divisional sweep for the Frontier bowling program. The Falcons’ girls have already clinched at least a share of an ECIC Division I title for the 10th consecutive year, while the boys have to win one of its final two matches of the regular season this week to earn an unprecedented 10th straight league title of its own.
Frontier’s boys have now won a miraculous eight straight matches to move into first place in ECIC I after opening the season with consecutive losses. The Falcons defeated Lancaster 5-2 at Lancaster Lanes to put a stranglehold on the Division I title chase. Freshman Vinny Waleszczak led Frontier, rolling a high game of 246 and three-game series of 689. Also in the win, eighth grade sensations Jacob Johns-Sargent and Matt Kinn fired 236 and 627 and 236 and 597, respectively, sophomore Zach Miller threw a 615 series, Aaron Buziak rolled a 255 high game and 588 series and co-captain Mike Harris shot a 608 series.
Led by the division’s top two bowlers, Chelsea Mee and Amanda Klinger, Frontier’s girls now stand at 10-0 with matches against West Seneca West (Feb. 2) and Orchard Park (Feb. 4) remaining.
The post season begins for bowling with the ECIC Roll-Offs for boys on Monday, Feb. 8 and girls Tuesday, Feb. 9 at Thruway Lanes in Cheektowaga.
In Monsignor Martin Association action, St. Francis continued its winning ways, improving to 28-8 after taking all three games from Cardinal O’Hara on Jan. 21. Corey Wells led the way with a three-game pin total of 673, followed by Steve Waleszczak (647) and Ian Prechtl (631). In junior varsity action, St. Francis earned a win in most recent action behind Anthony Rebman’s 581 series, followed by Jon Bauer, (458) and Matt Kunselman (446). The Red Raiders improved to 37-11. In the match prior against O’Hara on Jan. 14, Kunselman led the winners with a three-game total of 540.
