Pete Rindfuss, a sophomore on the Hamburg indoor track and field team, earned two medals at the state championships on Saturday (March 1) at Cornell, as part of the Section VI Intersectional relay, a distance medley event.
He was the anchor runner, turning in a personal-best 1600-meter run of 4:31.7, which was four seconds better than his qualifying run at sectionals the week prior. Mitch Loiacano of Lockport, Aaron Granger of Pioneer, and Noah McGhee of Cheektowaga, all seniors, were the other members of a relay that set a Section VI record of 9:07.21. They earned fourth place in the NYSPHSAA championship and were fifth in the Federation.
Also locally, Lake Shore senior TJ Hornberger
finished sixth in the 1600-meter with a 4:19.64 and seventh in the 1000 in 2:32.61. The Syracuse-bound Hornberger is a cross country state champion. Also for the boys, Frontier junior Trevor Koch
placed 12th with a height of 13-06 in the pole vault.
On the girls side, Frontier junior McKyla Brooks
finished third in the triple jump with an effort of 38-04 and sixth in the long jump (17-08). Senior teammate Sydney Bova
was 21st in the 1500 with a 4:57.62.
