Dodson named to 2014 U.S. ball hockey team

Bill Dodson, a resident of the village of Hamburg, made the final roster for Team USA ball hockey. The World Cup will be held in Tampa Bay in September 2014. The process to make the team involved two tryouts starting in New Jersey, with more than 200 participants, followed by another tryout Dec. 7 – 8 in Philadelphia. The final roster was chosen recently by the directors of Team USA ball hockey. Dodson has been involved with the sport for years, working his way to this ultimate of accomplishments..

Senior can take advantage of ski discounts

The town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services is selling discounted all-day lift tickets for anyone ages 60 and older, through its Silver Skis program. The ski dates are Mondays, Jan. 13 and Feb. 10. Tickets are available for purchase at the senior services office at 4150 Sowles Road, building H, in Hamburg. Youth ski/snowboard club registration ongoing

Registration continues for the Youth Ski/Snowboard Club at Kissing Bridge Ski Center, through the town of Hamburg Department of Youth, Recreation and Senior Services, for youth ages 9 – 18. Those interested should contact the recreation office as soon as possible, as openings are limited, Recreation Supervisor Luke Sullivan said. Club members will meet for eight Saturday mornings, beginning Jan. 4 – Feb. 22 at the village of Hamburg Youth Center, 200 Prospect Ave, Hamburg. Buses will depart at 8:30 a.m. to Kissing Bridge and leave to come back at 3 p.m. Town of Hamburg chaperones will be on the bus and on-site at Kissing Bridge, at all times. The fee includes eight weeks of all-day skiing or snowboarding, with chaperoned bus transportation to and from Kissing Bridge and an optional six weeks of 90-minute group ski or snowboarding lessons. Participants will also receive coupons and perks and are encouraged to ask about “Adding a Pass,” which provides an opportunity to club members to purchase a discounted Kissing Bridge season pass. Equipment for skiing (skis, boots and poles) and snowboarding (snowboard, boots and bindings) will be available for rental.
