Snyder, Riso take second at county championships
Matt Stasiak shot a two-day total of 137, good for a three-under par finish, to earn the Menís Division title at the 2013 Erie County Amateur Championships played July 6-7 at Elma Meadows Golf Course. The Clarence resident nailed birdies on holes six through eight and posted a second round score of 67, which helped him finish five strokes better than Johnathan Snyder of Hamburg and Dan Yustin of East Amherst. Chelsea Dantonio of Lancaster won the Womenís Division, finishing the tournament with a two-day total of 149 (plus-one), which edged out Sara Riso of Hamburg by three strokes. First round medalists were Yustin, who shot a 68, and Dantonio, with a 75. Joining Yustin in the second day last group were Billy Hanes of Elma, who shot a 69 in the first round before finishing tied for fourth (144) with Brian Rajczak of Grand Island, and eventual champion Stasiak. Following Dantonio were Molly Balbierz of Hamburg (76), Sarah Singleton of Cheektowaga (77) and Riso (77). Michelle Hanes of Elma snuck into third by the end of two days with a 159, while Balbierz took fourth (162) and Singleton, fifth (163).
Village of Hamburg golf tourney slated for Aug. 22
The seventh annual Village of Hamburg Recreation Departmentís golf tournament will take place on Monday, Aug. 12 starting with registration at 10 a.m. at Gowanda Country Club on 2623 Brown Street in Collins. The shotgun start for the team scramble format will begin 11 a.m. The cost for a foursome is $380 before July 1 and $440 after that date. It includes 18 holes with a cart, beverages on the course, lunch at the turn, a door prize, framed photo of foursome for each golfer, buffet dinner and dessert, entry in long drive and closest to pin contests. The happy hour/championship shootout on hole number 18 follows golf, before a buffet dinner ends the day. Dinner only tickets are available at $25 apiece. Also sponsorship opportunities are available. They include tee box sponsors for $50, birdie sponsors for $100, eagle sponsors for $200 and hole-in-one sponsors for $500. Hamburg Womenís Golf Club weekly results
Top finishers from the Hamburg Womenís Golf Clubís weekly tournament, Fairway Frolic, held on June 27 were Carol Daleo in first with a score of 24, followed by Janet Plarr (25) in Class A; Ilona Klein in first with a 32, followed by Carol Ludlow (34) in Class B; Joanne Comstock in first with a 36, followed by Barb Logan (36) in Class C; and Nancy Burke in first with a 39, followed by Donna Griffey (40) in Class D.
In other action, the top finishers from the annual June Handicap Tournament were Carol Daleo and Andrea Schroeder in Class A; Donna Frauenhofer and Suzanne Mandell in Class B; Ilona Klein and Diane Petrick in Class C; and Marguerite Gambino and Nancy Burke in Class D.

Top finishers from the Gowanda Country Club Ladies League play on June 26 included, for low gross, Priscilla Graupman with a score of 46, Kim Gier (47), Joyce Bigelow (47), Trudy Jackson (48) and Jan Parker (49); and for low net, Donna Colletta with a score of 34, Andrea Parshall (35), Dawn Zopp (38), Judy Jackson (38), Cheryl Horschel (38) and Gail Kanney (38).
