In rainy and wet conditions on the course, the Hamburg girls cross-country team finished second to state-ranked East Aurora, which was the host at the Blue Devils Invitational on Sept. 21. East Aurora bested the Bulldogs by 25 points in the varsity race. The Bulldogs effort stood out, due to the fact that this event marked the first time EA’s top five was broken up in a race, this season.
Erin Cuddihy and Olivia Luthringer finished fifth and sixth for the Bulldogs, respectively. Cuddihy was 3:10 ahead of her effort last year. Luthringer had never run the course. They were followed by eighth graders Morgan Lewis and Molly Kabza and Isabel Luthringer, at 15 through 17. Erin Kane and Hannah Fredriksen rounded out Hamburg’s varsity efforts.
In the junior varsity race, Rosemary Herbst and Carol Conners finished in the top 10, to lead the Bulldogs to second, behind East Aurora again. They were followed by scorers Claire Herrmann, Gabrielle LaRosa, Leah Covelli, Emily Puccio, and Madison Tucker. Kathleen Magee, Allie DeMarco, Meghan Gorman, Liz Bogner, and Emma Sensor rounded out the Hamburg effort.
