The Hamburg 14-and-under girls hockey team enjoyed another strong season, qualifying for the state tournament where it finished second and ended with an overall season record of 26-16-7. The team includes Brittany Nowak (goalie), first row; Meghan Roche, Nicole Dubill, Olivia Luthringer, Sophia Koenig and Savannah Kalinowski. Second row: Ally Edwards, Frangelica Bautz, Abby Krug, Victoria Allard, Ava Simoncelli, Sarah Martin and Karley Baker. Third row: Coaches’ Hans Koenig, Jeff Baker, Matt Allard and Jim Bautz.
The Hamburg Hawks Girls 14-and-under Tier II ice hockey took second at the New York State Tournament March 8-10 in Clinton. This was the team’s third trip in four seasons and entered the tournament ranked fifth in the country with an overall record of 26-16-7 on the season.
With two shutout wins against the Syracuse Blazers and West Seneca Wings, the Hawks qualified for the semifinals and faced their section rivals, the Buffalo Regals. The teams went into four overtime periods against before the Hawks finished the game in dramatic fashion on the power play.
Later that day, in the state final, the girls faced the top-ranked team in the country, the St. Lawrence Thunder, only to finish second in the State after taking the game to another overtime before falling.
