Hamburg girls cross country win Eden Invite

Hamburg finished its regular season on a muddy course at the Eden Invite on Oct. 18. The Bulldog girls finished first in the meet, as they prepped for the Erie County Interscholastic Conference Championships at Alden and Sectional Championships at Long Point Start Park, during the next two weeks.
Finishing first for the Bulldogs and second overall was Erin Cuddihy, who bettered her time from last year by more than a minute. Molly Kabsa, Morgan Lewis, Hannah Fredriksen, Isabel Luthringer completed the top five. Other Bulldogs faster than last year include Rosemary Herbst, Madison Tucker, Emilee Puccio and Meghan Gorman, who was 3:01 quicker. Liz Bognar, who did not compete last year, finished in 28 minutes. Earlier in the week, the Bulldogs finished their dual meet season with wins against Will South and West Seneca East in a double dual meet. They ended the league season at 4 – 1.
The Hamburg boys finished with a 3 – 2 regular season dual meet record, after defeating Williamsville South 24 – 34 and West Seneca East 21 – 38, at their home course, Chestnut Ridge.
Anchoring the team, taking first place overall, was senior Jake Wojnicki. Next, taking fourth overall, was sophomore Aaron Wojnicki, whom head coach Ron Fortuna called the most improved runner for Hamburg. Freshmen Dima Blundell and Matt Hess have also contributed, while juniors Jake Haney, Christian Kostowniak and Nate Robertson rounded out the scoring. At Eden, Hamburg finished seventh, as it rested some runners.
