Taylor Thurnherr, a sophomore at Hamburg High School, placed first all-around in the Platinum Level at the New York State X-Cel State Championships held at Galaxy Gymnastics in Orangeburg.
Thurnherr posted an all-around score of 36.95 taking top overall honors. She placed first on bars and beam and second on vault and floor. Her outstanding performance earned her the top spot on the state team that will travel to Massachusetts in June for the regional competition. Also competing, Hamburg High School freshman Julia McGorry placed fourth on beam and sixth all-around. Frontier High School freshman Mackenzie Schiffler tied Thurnherr for second on vault and placed sixth on bars.

Also, the Level 4 girls from Tumble Bee Gym captured fourth place at Stroup’s Lucky Stars Invitational recently in Jamestown. The girls competed in two age levels and captured medals and trophies.
Four girls competed in the ages 7-11 group — Caroline Mullett and Zada Piniewski, both of Hamburg, and Bryana Jeanty and Gabrielle Rohauer, both of Eden. The competition also featured a march-in to a theme. The Tumble Bee Gym girls made quite an impression winning the march-in contest as they dressed as Bee’s and brought along their gyms mascot “Trudy Tumble Bee.”
Also, Level 5 gymnast Samantha Mason of Eden Elementary turned in her best performance of the season qualifying to compete in the state championships. She placed eighth on vault and seventh on floor. Allyson Spicola of Eden placed 13th on vault.
