Frontier H.S., modified cheerleading tryouts upcoming
Frontier High School will conduct cheerleading tryouts on May 2-3 from 6:30-9 p.m. in the back gym. Before that, cheer, dance and stunting will be taught on April 22, 23, 25, 29 and 30. All interested participants must have a physical and white card. Physicals will be offered at the modified level on April 17-18 at the middle school and at the junior varsity and varsity levels on April 16 at the high school. The coach will work around spring spots schedules.
Hilbert announces dates for youth basketball camps
Hilbert College has announced dates for its 34th annual Summer Basketball Camps for boys and girls. The boys weeks will be June 23-27 and July 7-11, while the lone girls week will be July 14-18. Please note that registration/check-in is on Sunday(s) between 2:30-4 p.m. and each camp concludes on Thursday(s) at 3 p.m. Campers are given the choice of staying on campus as a resident camper in the newly opened and air conditioned Trinity Hall, or commuting as a day camper. Day camp runs from 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Cost for each week is $365 for resident campers and $275 for day campers. All meals included in the cost. Register prior to June 1 and receive a $20 discount. Groups of six or more receive an additional $10 off. All campers will receive individual instruction, personal evaluation, reversible jersey and camp water bottle. Activities underway at Town of Hamburg Sport Court
Beginning Monday, April 22 the Town Arena at the Recreation Center (former Nike Base), 2982 Lakeview Road, will be transformed from an ice rink to the Sport Court for youth and adult activities. It will host Start Smart Baseball, Start Smart Multi Sport and Start Smart Tennis which take place at 6 p.m. on Monday (Baseball), Tuesday (Tennis) and Thursday (Multi Sport). The Start Smart programs are all part of the National Alliance for Youth Sports for children ages 3 to 5 to acquaint them with a particular sport. Start Smart Golf will also take place at the Sport Court on Saturday at 9 a.m. for youth ages 5 to 7. The Sport Court will be the site of Pickup Roller Hockey for youth ages 7-12 on Saturday mornings in May and Adult Roller Hockey Leagues Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning in June. Pitch, Hit & Run competition May 4 in Hamburg
Town of Hamburg Recreation and D5AA Baseball will host the Pitch, Hit & Run official youth skills competition of Major League Baseball on Saturday, May 4 on Rotary Field at the Hamburg Recreation Center (former Nike Base) at 2982 Lakeview Road in Hamburg. The skills competition, sponsored by Scotts, will take place from 9 a.m. to noon for youth ages 7-14 at four levels of competition. Participation is free, but requires copies of birth certificates at registration which will be kept by the town. The levels of competition are Local, Sectional, Team Championship (MLB Ballparks) and National Finals (2013 MLB All-Star Game). In the Pitch category, youth will throw strikes to a designated target. In the Hit category, they will hit from a stationary batting tee for distance and accuracy. In the Run category, participants will be timed running from second base to home plate. Youth pick-up roller hockey program to begin May 4
The Town of Hamburg Recreation Department is now taking registration for its Youth Pick-Up Roller Hockey program for kids ages 7 - 12. The program is ideal for kids of all abilities looking to play hockey in a fun, non-competitive environment. Program sessions begin on Saturday, May 4, and will run through Saturday, June 15 at the Hamburg Town Arena Sport Court floor. There will be two age groups: the 7-9 year old group will run from 10:00 - 11:30 a.m., and the 10-12 year old group will run from 11:30 a.m -1:00 p.m. Registration cost is $40 for Town of Hamburg residents, and $50 for non-residents. Peszko among inductees into WNY Softball Hall of Fame
Wayne Peszko of Hamburg will be among 13 inducted as part of the Class of 2013 to the Western New York Softball hall of Fame. The 38th annual class, which includes players, coaches and umpires, will be inducted at a formal ceremony on Friday, May 3 at 6 p.m. at the Woodlawn Fire Hall on 3281 Lake Shore Road on Route 5. Also being inducted are Rick Bellando, Gary Neunder, Bob Remington, Jim Walker, Joe Wolosyn, Bill Dunford, Tommy Irons, Carl Edholm, Bill Tepas, Mark Wisniewski, the late Gerald Genter and the late Marco Faraci. The hall of fame was established in 1965 and has inducted more than 800 members. The cost to attend the ceremony is $35 per person. The dinner will be catered by Ilio DiPaolo’s in Blasdell. Hamburg Bulldogs youth lacrosse clinics registration
The Hamburg Bulldogs Youth Lacrosse Clinic is accepting registration for Saturday sessions on April 27 and May 11 for girls in grades 1-6, beginners through advanced. The clinics will be held from noon to 2 p.m. at the conclusion of the girls modified and varsity lacrosse games on the turf field at Howe Field. The cost is $20 for one session or $50 for all three. Each registered participant will receive a pair of Hamburg Lacrosse shorts and learn from the Hamburg girls’ varsity lacrosse players and head varsity coach Katy Ryan, a former Division I women’s lacrosse player. To pre-register please checks payable to “Hamburg Girls Lacrosse” to Tom Ryan, 3649 Bonnie Lane, Hamburg, NY 14075. A waiver form must also be obtained and filled out and signed. Walk-ups will be accepted on the day of each clinic. Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. Sticks and goggles will be provided for those without them. Please bring your own mouthguard, water bottle and appropriate footwear.
