Hamburg’s Kendra Quinn-Moultrie is among the locals playing in the BCANY hoops festival.
Several local girls high school basketball players will represent Section VI and the Buffalo-area in the third annual Basketball Coaches Association of NY (BCANY) Summer Hoops Festival from Friday through Sunday, Aug. 2-4 in Johnson City (near Binghamton).
Included on the all-star roster of 11 are soon-to-be-seniors Kendra Quinn-Moultrie of Hamburg and twins sisters, Caisey and Kaitlyn Lipka of Frontier, along with Immaculata sophomore Jordan Heinold. The team is being coached by Frontier’s Rick Mihalik and longtime Lockport head man Bill Shaw.
Moultrie, a 5-foot-10 forward, comes off a season in which she led Hamburg in scoring and helped the team to consecutive appearances in the sectional final. The Lipkas, both of whom are guards, have been with the Frontier varsity since their freshman seasons. Heinold, a 5-foot-10 forward, enjoyed a big freshman season in 2012-13 and is the lone underclassman to make the roster.
The events will be held for both boys and girls, with scholastic teams only, and is intended to replace the Empire State Games, which were again canceled this summer due to lack of funding. As with the Empire State Games, this event is designed to bring together in the spirit of competition, the best athletes from across the state, which is divided into eight regions competing.
