Hamburg meets Frontier in JV hockey final

The Hamburg Bulldogs junior varsity hockey team began Southtowns Club Hockey playoffs on Feb. 22 with a hard fought 6-4 win over Orchard Park after concluding the regular season with a 17-1 record. Including non-league and tournament games, the Bulldogs have lost only once in 23 games. In the playoff win, Alex Suchan, after having been out for almost two months with a shoulder injury, returned to score a goal and assist. Hamburg outshot O.P. 37-16. The team met cross-town rival Frontier, which finished 15-3 in league play, for the SCHL title on Wednesday (Feb. 27) at Leisure Rinks.

Following that game the team embarks on a trip to Ithaca for the NYS JV Hockey Tournament. Led by All-Stars Jason Lucarelli, Brendan Hart, Colin Mills and Evan Wright, Hamburg will look to claim the state title, as one of the eight top JV teams in the state. The team has been extremely strong on offense, scoring 114 goals in 18 games, while surrendering a mere 29. Veterans Tosh Johnson, Alex Conomos, Dave Held and Dylan Wagner, as well as freshman Will Agate, will be counted on to help create a winning foundation in Ithaca.
